re: Toughest Places To Play In The SEC Entering The 2026 Season

I agree with the SEC schedule argument, since around 2005. It doesn’t really hold up all time. As late as the 80s SEC teams were playing five or six conference games a year. Say what you want about the Big 8 but at least OU played every team. Some of the matchups involving the better teams in the SEC haven’t been played that much given the sport s long history. Also SEC used to be notorious for scheduling late cupcake games.
Creative scheduling in earlier decades gives some context, at least when comparing OU’s home record against those of older SEC teams.
I don’t know what Florida s home record is. But saying that most SEC teams would do just as well against OUs old schedule is a stretch.
During Stoops tenure OU had more conference titles than it had home losses.
I do love the SEC environments. OU usually doesn’t get ranked high on that. A&M and LSU get the love in those “rankings “.
But Owen field and OMS is no easy place to win for opponents. The close proximity of seating around the field can be intimidating. And the aura of the place is real.
It may not be the loudest or get the writer accolades but it’s a tough place to play.
