What are the top 3 SEC Gameday Experiences?
Starting an annual SEC stadium trip with the boys and we’re mapping it out. It’s our first year not playing college football. Going to start with Lane getting whooped in Oxford and go from there… looking for suggestions!

You going for the tailgate or the stadium?
Tailgate: LSU, Ole Miss, Miss State, UGA, Tennessee. Go where the food is good, the folks are friendly, and expectations are low enough that everyone shows up and has a good time
Stadium: Florida, A&M, LSU, UGA, Tennessee. Really just naming the biggest stadiums if you’re looking for impressive visual structure. You could swap Bama or Texas for A&M.
College town: Athens, Oxford, Columbia (MO), Tuscaloosa, Auburn

Skip Austin. Tailgating is all fake corporate setups, the home crowd is weak, and there's homeless people everywhere.
If you want to see Texas, go to Texas-OU in Dallas. It's usually a really good game. Sit on the OU side of the stadium because the Texas side gets baked in the sun. The tailgating in any parking lot is legit. The State Fair in the background is a lot of fun.
Being new kids on the block, Norman is a nice spot but not flashy. Fans are hospitable and down to earth. I'll definitely be going back there next time LSU plays @OU.
ETA: since some here seem to think I'm saying the entire OU side is somehow on the dark side of the moon... There is way more shade on the OU side of the stadium for the majority of the game. As a fan of the game with no dog in the fight, I'm picking a section that's as comfortable as possible, but do whatever floats your boat.

I've been to most of the stadiums within the SEC outside of 4-5 of them. The five that I would recommend:
1. LSU
2. Tennessee
3. South Carolina
4. Auburn
5. Texas A&M

The Cotton Bowl runs SE to NW... So I'm not sure why the Texas side (north) would necessarily be worse... but whatever.
However I'd be curious if any Texas fans have any stories about why the Cotton Bowl seating is the way it is and always has been.
The reason I say that is because one of the Oklahoma legends is that Texas got to pick which side they wanted and they picked the north end because with prevailing south winds... the team driving into the Texas side of the stadium would generally have the wind at their back. The idea is that there would be more scoring in the north end zone.
Probably complete BS... but that is what the old timers who were alive when the game started being played in Dallas told us.

I’ve gone to a fair share of games with my buddy over the years and Del Contes number 1 goal was the improve the gameday experience.
I will say it’s night and day from where it was 5 years ago. Actually a really cool scene.

Doesn’t suck but also not great. Just a normal college town with a massive Indian casino on the exit.
Wouldn’t put it in the top half of SEC college towns. Columbia is much better as well as many others

I hope to add Norman in the next few years

Those are the core 5
I’d put Florida, Bama, and South Carolina right after. All great scenes for a big game

When South Carolina is even halfway decent (7-5 or better), Williams-Brice Stadium is in the Top 5.
