Top 30

The Next Round
@NextRoundLive

What would college football’s biggest programs be worth if they could be bought and sold like pro franchises?

The Athletic projected hypothetical open-market values using recent football revenue, comparable pro-team sales and factors such as conference affiliation, brand strength, facilities, fan support and future growth.

I don’t see why Tennessee or Nebraska are as high as they are on the list

Nebraska has name recognition but also one of the best fanbases in college sports. When they came to OKC for basketball playoffs this year they drank downtown dry and were all over the metro. It was bonkers how many came down for it. Those 2 factor in their rankings

Illinois in top 30?

Tennessee over Florida and LSU?

Makes no sense

Tennessee has a good history in the most valuable conference, with strong name recognition, elite facilities, great booster support, and in a semi-rich state. Seems obvious

The offseason is almost over

We have hit peak levels of nonsense and are about to come out the other side once more

They’ve done nothing in almost 30 years. Name recognition doesn’t get you that high of a valuation.

It obviously does dummy. They have Notre Dame listed as the third most valuable brand, even ahead of Bama, despite not winning a natty in 38 years. Might wanna look at the list buuud, there's a lot of schools listed with nothing recent to show for it.

There is no rational explanation for these valuations. If there is, I’d love to see the actual formula.

But it’s good for offseason, where threads are rarely logical…

those national titles just don’t go away …. you will learn that a solid fan base that’s keeps coming every season regardless of winning.

This is an interesting quantification, but a few of these are essentially the same thing.

Weighting it this way is almost always going to include teams that have historical relevance and exclude a flash-in-the-pan like James Madison, even though they technically made the CFP last year.

Ah ok. Need a subscription. Hopefully they have a published calculation.

Reason I mention it is the calculation of Aggie Alumni has grown exponentially.
Back in the 60s it was a very small student population comparatively speaking. So living alumni projected over the next 30 years is driving athletic revenue growth.

It matters. Brand and fanbase matters. Cowboys haven’t made a conference championship game in 30 years but are probably the most valuable NFL franchise
