Slocum did not do away with it. He modified it from "all walk-on" to "one walk-on" on the kickoff team.

As an aside, I was a student when Sherrill did this, and it was not particularly popular. A LOT of us thought that it was a stunt which demonstrated his lack of understanding of the concept the 12th Man ... that it is not about GETTING onto the field, but rather about being READY to serve if NEEDED. But most of us eventually came around.

I almost posted the same thing yesterday. That was pretty neat…a Rudy moment. We need to check though, were they offsides like he was? Lol!

How exactly? Because the walk ons that never play had a good outcome in garbage time vs an FCS team?

I care. It was a great moment for those men. They had a second chance too, but the kicker sent the kickoff out of bounds.
