Two popular foods have been "banned" from the kitchens inside of the Olympic Village in Paris. While the foods are popular, they're banned for legitimate reasons: french fries and avocados...

While it sounds crazy that french fries are banned at the Olympic Village in France, it's apparently a safety hazard. The fries need to cook in screaming hot oil and they don't want to be starting any fires.
Avocados, meanwhile, are not native to France, and they consume a lot of water. So, it wasn't seen as worthwhile - or necessary - to bring them into the Olympic Village.
“French fries are too risky because of fire-hazard concerns over deep-fat fryers,” Charles Guilloy, one of the Olympic Village’s top chefs in charge, told The New York Times. “No to foie gras because animal well-being is on everyone’s mind, and no to avocados because they are imported from a great distance and consume a lot of water.”
