Win or lose on Monday, is this the best team UGA has ever fielded?

Combination of talent and coaching puts this team up there. 2012 was loaded with squandered talent on Defense

This team probably has the best Leadership that any UGA team has ever had.

I really liked the 80 team, but I would say this team is my favorite because of the heart and leadership displayed.

1980 was unbeaten and untied, so it's hard to argue this team being better if they don't win.

However, if they win, I think you give them a slight nod because the 80 team avoided a lot of top teams before the Sugar Bowl. This team played at ND, twice against Auburn (neither at home), the Heisman winner with OU in The Rose Bowl and Bama. Much tougher road to the title.

The 2002 team was very, very good. Should have been in the BCS game.
2012 was an exciting team as well.
But, both lost to Florida, so this team is definitely better!

We really need to get the win to clearly prove we were better than the 2002 team. It was a different era then in the BCS and we drew a pretty mediocre FSU team that got down to their 3 TD string QB. This team has played much better teams as you guys have pointed back. If we pull it out Monday, this will definitely be our best team ever. The 80 team’s best win was over Notre Dame and they weren’t even the second ranked team.

Only if they win by 2 scores. I can’t say a 2 loss team is the best ever no matter how many games they play.

My comment was based on games up to now. If we win the NC then this is indeed the best Georgia team I have seen since 1964 when I enrolled.
The 1980 team got lucky in a couple of games. The George Rogers fumble and "Run Lindsey Run" brought us wins when we could easily have lost.
The only "luck" this season was Tae Crowder being smart enough to down that kickoff instead of trying to run it and running out the clock.

Laughable take. The win vs AU already did that, and then the win vs OU made it to where its not even a close comparison.

That's a tough call. Team from 1980 was special but the team this year is also very special.

Either way, GO FRICKIN' DAWGS!

We got this guys! We're going to be the national champions Monday night. Trust me on this one.

Not a laughable take at all Pal. 2002 team win the Sugar Bowl and the SEC championship game. This team won the Rose Bowl and SEC championship game. I know the Rose Bowl was a playoff game, but the 02 team didn’t have that opportunity back then. So, like I said, we need to get the win.

There have been some DGDs over the years but this team overall is probably my favorite with Chubb and Michel. Not only are they great players but have recovered from injuries and kept their noses clean. Plus I can’t remember a group of seniors deciding to come back like this group did.

Both teams went 13-1. Thats where the similarities end:

2002 team barely scraped by teams all season long, while 2017 smashed teams all season long.

2002 didnt beat a strong team in the SECCG or the bowl game, while 2017 beat a strong team in the SECCG and the bowl game.

As it stands right now.

1. 1980
2. 1942
3. 2017
4. 2002
5. 2012

Honorable mentions to 81/82.

A win Monday could and I think would vault 2017 to #1.

2012 did not lose to Florida

Thanks to Mr. Mitchell

USCe and the game that shall not be mentioned were the only blemishes.

I thought the same thing in making my first post. 80 was magical because of HW and Erk’s defense. Scott Woerner stole the Clemson game. This is by far the most dominant team I’ve ever seen GA field, and, like you, I’ve watched, listened to and attended games since the mid 60’s. Unlike the best Richt teams, there is nothing soft about the way this team plays.

Correct. My mistake. Guess I was just used to Richt losing to the Lizards back then.
