You’d think a talent rich state like Georgia, and the country club culture of metro Atlanta, the program wouldn’t be so below average.

The current coach has won two national championships and eight SEC championships. He's just awful.

He also retired at the end of this season.

Time really chipped away at his prowess, don’t think we found ourselves scrambling to retain him

And instead of hiring former UGA golfer Ryan Hybl, who was outstanding as coach at OU, Brooks decides to go cheap and hire DeMoss from within the current staff.

Maybe there was an issue with hiring Hybl other than money. I don't know.

Hybl was just recently hired by GA Tech.

Georgia golf remains one of the top feeder schools to the PGA Tour. The Bulldogs lead all universities with 10 alumni actively competing on the 2025 PGA Tour.

Georgia has consistently produced successful PGA Tour pros over the years, including two-time Masters winner Bubba Watson and 2023 Open Championship winner Brian Harman. Out of the 10 players currently on tour, nine of them have won events. Check out Georgia’s current PGA Tour golfers.

Russell Henley
After attending Georgia from 2007-2011, where he was teammates with English, Henley turned pro in 2011 before joining the Tour in 2012. Henley became the first golfer in over a decade to win their debut tournament by winning the Sony Open in Hawaii by three strokes over Tim Clark. His 72-hole score of 24-under set the tournament record and, at the time, was the second-best 72-hole score in PGA Tour history.

I used to watch this kid practicing at the now defunct Oak Haven GC when Idle Hour was closed for maintenance. He would spend hours chipping the practice green. Hours spent honing spin, clean/tight/burrowed lies.

He can't hit a 300+ yard drive with consistency, but he wins PGA tournaments.

If you have played the UGA GC, you will not overpower it. You need to "work" a fade or a draw and learn how to put enough spin on a long iron to stay on the green.

It's been historically kinda known UGA don't spend the way others do and doesn't play the games that others do. They think people will come to UGA for the education and benefits and maybe even state loyalty. What we as football fans know and have known since Derek Henry showed up to Tuscaloosa in a brand new Charger -- all jokes aside - weve known alot longer than that - but essentially - money talks - bullshite walks.

I follow golf as much as the next guy, and while it's fun to see previous dawgs do well in the PGA, I would like to see a little more success at UGA.

It would be nice to get a trophy of some kind every now and then. And I'm not talking about a Linger Longer trophy.

Vying for the SEC championship should be a given. Getting in match play in the NCAAs should happen fairly frequently as well.

Hopefully, DeMoss will get things jump started with Mason Howell and things take off.

100% we should’ve hired Hybyl. We got cheap and the nerds capitalized on it

the country club culture of metro Atlanta

The golf talent that #theGeorgiaPipeline has produced onto the PGA, LIV, and mini tours over the past couple of decades has come almost exclusively from everywhere in the state EXCEPT the atl metro toilet.

The point remains, UGA golf is subpar considering the talent the state carries. Pointing out that bubba didn’t grow up in ATL doesn’t change that fact.
