When I was a kid I lived in northeastern Ohio. The 2 favorite college football teams in that region are Ohio State and Notre Dame.

But even at that early age, I was a contrarian. My favorite team then was Alabama. One of my friends really gave me a hard time about the 1974 Sugar Bowl when the tide lost to the Fighting Irish.

My father was a physician who was thinking about giving up his private practice to take a position as a staff physician for the students at UGA. I was angry and didn't want to leave all of my good friends. So I actually rooted for Miami of Ohio when they played Georgia in the Tangerine Bowl in 1974. (Oddly enough, Miami of Ohio was probably better than every SEC team between 1973-1975, except for Alabama.) That is the only time I ever rooted against Georgia.

A year later, my father did decide to take that job. I still didn't want to move and leave all of my friends, but since we were moving anyway, I decided to root for the dawgs.

First game I watched as a dawg fan was Georgia vs. Georgia Tech in 1975. It was a pretty good introduction. Georgia scored 42 points in the first half and won 42-26.

I tried to look for a youtube video of the game. Couldn't find one, but found this from that same season. LINK

They always show the Appleby to Washington play. I didn't realize Florida had plenty of time to come back and win or tie, but messed up.

I have been a dawg fan ever since...41 years. Longer than many folks who post here have been alive.

(Incidentally on a slightly humorous note, my dad left that job after about a year and we moved to Augusta. It wasn't challenging enough for him because the only affliction he ever got to treat from the students was VD.)

Does it count if I was 2 in 86 and Witnessed Treadwell kick a game winning FG to beat us?

I think the earliest game I remember was the "Run, Lindsey, Run" Ga/Fla game. But I was a Dawg from birth.

Born into a UGA family, but my first memory of watching was 92 against Tech.

Have never tired of seeing us pound them since that day.

I don't remember my first UGA game that I watched, but I understand I took the pacifier out of my mouth and said Gooo Dagas.

I became a true fan in the last 70s and, like many, really kicked in with Herschel. I was honored to play against HW in the high school playoffs. I went to the Sugar Bowl in 1981. In 1984, I transferred to UGA from Valdosta State.

True glory years, soon to return.

Born in May of 81 into a DAWGS family. So I have always been a DAWG.
But my first memory of really caring about a game was the 88' Auburn game. Which we lost. But I had some cousins about the same age that were Auburn fans, and they were talking crap. That really got me going to be a die hard DAWG. Then in 89 when Andre Hastings went to Athens from Morrow HS. that really set me off. I graduated from Morrow in 99. But my neighbor across the street played rec. ball with Andre when I was little. And my neighbor's dad was the coach for all their teams. So Andre was always over there. From then on I've been hooked every Saturday.

First one I really remember was 1996 against Auburn. Born in 89 so that was the first one I can really remember getting super excited over.

didn't lindsay scott return a KO for a touchdown that game?

I think munson had some funny line after that but for the life of me can't remember. It's not one of his ultra famous ones but I remember it was something good.

Season opener in 1964. Bammer beat us 31-3. Bammer went on to win the NC that year. We beat Clemson, Florida, and Ga Tech that season. We had a rookie HC that year.

I'm a young buck, born in 1990, used to watch the Dawgs plenty, but my first real memory is 2001 at Tennessee, David Greene to Musa Smith. Hobnail Boot

First time I was in Athens, I'll never forget. 2005 home opener where the Dawgs and DJ Shockley curb-stomped Jared Zabransky and the Boise State Broncos. 48-13

I can't really answer that since I was going to games before I had real memories, I recall snapshots of certain games (93 uf especially) but the first one I vividly remember was 96 AU.

That was the 1st game I recall on TV...the Florida game was usually televised along with the GT game but that was about it back then.

First game in person was the '78 Clemson game.Dawgs won 12-0 and handed Clemson their only loss of the year...kinda got the Clemson/Georgia rivalry heated up going into the 80's.

it sucks that the younger generation (of which I admittedly am a part of) doesnt' realize how fierce and intense this rivalry used to be. As far as the intensity/hatred meter goes, back in the 80s-mid90s this rivalry was probably up there near the top group, more so than UT for sure. We had some awesome battles with them back in teh day.

IIRC, ABC so badly wanted exclusive rights for the 82 game (featuring the last 2 national title winners) that they bought lights or somethign for us so it could be the first televised night game at sanford. Or something like that, probably fuzzy on teh details.
