I posted about this before the first Alabama game last season. Since the 2017 Auburn debacle, anytime Kirby's defense has ever been lit up, it has been by teams that have multiple NFL caliber pass catchers, a QB with elite accuracy, and a QB who is elusive enough to buy time for those guys to get open. They have had all three.
2017 Oklahoma had Baker, CeeDee Lamb, Hollywood Brown, and Mark Andrews. A #1 overall pick at QB, two first round WRs, and a first round TE.
2018 Alabama had Tua/Hurts (I don't think much of Hurts as a passer, but he did win a Super Bowl MVP), Devonta Smith, Jerry Jeudy, Henry Ruggs, and Jaylen Waddle. All four of those WRs were first round picks.
2018/2019 LSU had Burrow throwing to Chase, and Jefferson. A #1 overall pick at QB and arguably the two best WRs in the NFL right now, both of who were first round picks.
2020 Alabama had Mac Jones throwing to Devonta Smith and Jaylen Waddle. All three were first round picks.
2020 Florida had Kyle Trask throwing to Kyle Pitts, and Kadarius Toney. Pitts and Toney were both first round draft picks.
2021 Alabama had Bryce Young throwing to Williams and Metchie. Young went #1 overall, Williams was a first round pick (and the best deep threat WR I've seen in college in years), and Metchie was taken high in the second round.
2022 Ohio State had CJ Stroud throwing to Harrison and Emeka Egbuka. Stroud went #2 overall (and played the game of his life that night), and both of the WRs were first round picks.
2024 Alabama had Milroe throwing to Ryan Williams. This is a bit different; Williams has first round talent, but Milroe played at a level against Georgia that he never did against anyone else.
2025 Ole Miss had Chambliss throwing to De'Zhaun Stribling and Harrison Wallace. This is the big time outlier. Chambliss is a very good college QB, but if he had an NFL future, he wouldn't have fought so hard to come back to college at his age. He'd be chasing NFL QB money. Stribling was a second round pick by the 49ers, but Wallace was undrafted.
This is why losing to Ole Miss in the playoff game was genuinely shocking to me. They didn't have the typical pieces needed to light up a Kirby defense, especially the way they had been playing down the stretch of the season.
As for Oklahoma, Mateer was not the same after hurting his thumb last season and I think he'll be better this year, but their WRs are not on the same level as past teams that have put a big number on Kirby's defense. Of course, after the Ole Miss games last year, this may not matter as much anymore.

I think have a veteran team will be huge this year. Especially in D. Hopefully we’re very “business” like this year.

Not worried about any of them anymore tbh. The game has soured on me. I'm not invested like I once was.

This one bothers me from the standpoint of coming so late in the year. If we have two losses going into that one and Carolina isn’t dealing with a ton of injuries, they along with that environment could be a real threat to knock us out of the playoffs.

2012 sure has done some lasting damage to some of you regarding Columbia. Look at every game we've played there under Kirby (and against beamer). The closest beamer has kept it with us in Columbia is like 30 points. The closest he's kept it against us at any venue was still a double digit loss early in the season when we had a ton of shite to figure out.
Sc has a hot and cold but potentially really good QB, a good wr, and a good DL. And not much else to speak of. There is truly no reason to be as concerned about them as many of our fans seem to be. We should be 10x as worried about Missouri as SC yet nobody is even mentioning them.

I’m thinking about trying to go to the USCe game this year since I’m 30 mins from their stadium. I swore I’d never attend another away game though unless I have seats in the UGA section.

Yes, but we aren’t the meat grinder we were from 2017-2022. We’re still a lot better than South Carolina, but the gap isn’t an insurmountable chasm like it was when we had those insanely stacked rosters.
And to paint Columbia as an easy place to play is only an honest argument when they’re really bad. And they may be this year, but they also may not be. You may roll up in November on a team that still has a lot to play for. Even if you don’t, the Carolina-Bama game last year proved they can still screw with playoff-caliber teams.
Heck, they had like a 30 point lead on A&M, and that wasn’t even at home.

I can give you more worried about Mizzou maybe, but definitely not 10x lol. Especially since we get Mizzou at home.

Some famous coach (Bear Bryant?) was asked the question, "What will be your toughest game this season?" He answered, "The next one." That's what I feel about the next season.

These days it's harder to evaluate team talent in the offseason because of high levels of turnover from one year to the next. But, using 247 composite ratings as a proxy for talent, and taking experience into account, the 2026 UGA-USCe gap is about the same as it was in 2022 and 2023 (don't have USCe data from '21, but that year's gap was wider for sure).
USCe has a potential talent and experience advantage at one position and that's WR. At every other position, especially at the level of prospective starters, UGA's ratings gap is large enough (and experience is about even) that it would be a statistical outlier for us to lose that game. The most feasible reasons for a Georgia loss would be either a very high hit rate on incoming USCe transfers or a wide disparity in quarterback performance to their advantage.

21: 2-2, 7
22: 3-1, 8
23: 3-1, 5
24: 5-0, 9
25: 1-3, 4
In years they ended up with 8 or more wins they were 8-1 in November. In years they had 7 or fewer wins they were 6-6 in November. So basically, if they're a pretty decent/good team they've fared well late but if they're mediocre to bad they've faltered. Not a shock, I know. Looking at their schedule it's possible they have at least 5 losses entering our game so hopefully that bodes well for us as for their mental state. Especially since they go on the road to clemson the next week.
