Mr. X, some a-hole we don't know the identity of, came to UGA AD and said he paid Gurley to sign 80 somethings. As proof, he offered a video of Gurley signing the items (but no money changing hands). The un-named frick then told UGA the items were currently for sale at JSA.

UGA approached JSA to follow up.

JSA did indeed have said items, and authenticated them as being real.

Hows is this any different than the Bama players from a couple years ago signing autographs at that mens wear shop....and receiving money and meals...no suspensions were incured

Our athletic department cannot be this incompetent, can they?

^^^This, yes they can. We still have Charlie Brown as our head coach!

They were given free badass suits to wear to some presentation. I mean that's blatant as frick. TTMW put up all their autographs in the store, and the next week the players are wearing $3K suits from TTMW.

But alabama doesn't give a frick. We think playing nice is the right thing.

I want a heisman. I want to beat got damn missouri. I want to win the fricking east. Apparently our administration doesn't.

I have my complaints about Richt too but this makes me more frustrated with the athletic dept than with Richt. With the east on the line and Gurley basically being our team, I don't see any way Richt chooses to suspend him. This obviously came from above him.

Now does our athletic dept act like a pussy when it comes to fighting things? Just ask AJ Green

Then put together a plan for the final solution.

Not to nitpick overly much, but isn't killing millions of Jews, gypsies, homosexuals, and invalids a *slight* overreaction?

The athletic department should have learned their lesson after AJ Green, playing nice with the NCAA only screws it for the players, coaches, and fans. Nothing would have ever came out of this with the evidence they have right now.

ETA
Even if the NCAA had a smoking gun that proved Gurley took money for his autograph, I'm not sure they would be eager to pursue this case with all the court cases out right now.

I am as big a GA fan as anyone and I want what's right to be done for the team, not Gurley. If he knowingly did something against the rules and he KNEW what the repercussions would be and how it would affect his team, what do y'all have to say about that? If he did it on purpose, then frick him. Like Dallas, I will withhold judgement for now.

Play him. The team needs him.

I would rather keep it hushed. There's no need for this even if he did know about it.

what I don't understand is what is the incentive for these degenerate fricks to tattle to the NCAA/school compliance departments? What do they have to gain by ruining a player's career?

"Hey, thanks for signing that stuff for $400. So, you know you broke a major NCAA rule, right? Looks like you'll be giving me all of your game-worn jerseys for the rest of the year for free, right? No? Well, looks like I've got a call to make - 'scuse me for a second."

Like Mike Franzese once said - after a college player has taken money, you *OWN* him. The smart ones play along; the stupid ones try to back out and then, well.....

I don't see how any other player would take $ from them knowing they turned them in.

It has nothing to do with guys who might have taken money in the future. It's all about the guys who took money in the past, but are still playing.

Yea but that's a short-sighted business plan, you're gonna get a max of 3 years if you start working with some kid at the start of his freshman year.

I overreacted a bit at 1st. I still think if he did it for money he should be punished. "BUT" since I don't know his personal situation & haven't "walked a mile in his shoes" it's wrong for me to comment & hypocritical for me to judge him offa my standards. FWIW... I wish him the best & hope it's an misunderstanding or a mistake on his part...

SB nation is about to go with a story on it in the next few hours according to a good friend that is a national writer with them. Apparently it is a Rome,Ga based autograph dealer who paid Gurley. He has it on tape with Gurley signing and being paid. The guy is a UF alum.
