Not sure whether we should trust the source, but this article says he could return even if he did hire an agent?

If we can find a way to get Claxton back, we could be alright next season.

If he can pull this kind of magic off on the recruiting trail consistently without the death penalty incoming, he'll likely be here as long as he wants... Need the results to come together on the floor, but this is nearly more talent in one class than we've likely had at any time collectively on the team in the last decade at least.

Dunno if anyone else had seen this article: LINK

Sounds pretty clear that if Claxton doesn't have a legit shot at going in the 1st round, he's coming back. I suppose that will likely have a lot to do with Combine performances, but as of right now, even when he's included in mocks, he's not in the top 30. Would be cool to see a UGA player go in the first round, but I truly think the kid could benefit from one more year, particularly *next* season with so much incoming talent. I can certainly see the argument against it, as it would be less of us just purely running the offense through him as an odd Center/PG hybrid for lack of a better option.

"It's still 50-50"... LINK

Not sure I buy that... Sounds mostly hopeful that either the Combine or one of the team workouts goes really well...

Great quote from a 247 article/post:

Of the all-time top ten players to sign with the Bulldogs, five will be suiting up this winter at Stegeman Coliseum. That includes signees like Edwards, Brown, and Walton along with upperclassmen Rayshaun Hammonds and Tyree Crump.

I wish Clax nothing but the best in life and I'm damn sure not pulling "against" him, but I just don't see him succeeding in the NBA very soon, and certainly not in the next 2 years. Guys like Trey and Yante were wing players that could shoot from outside and handle the ball. In fact all 3 guys acted as sort of a non-traditional PG for us at times. Neither one of those guys have really done much to speak of in the pros. Clax is taller sure but is rail thin. Is he going to try to match up with 4s, or try to post up with 5s?

I can see a team drafting him based on potential to be a guy for them down the road, but would a team use a 1st round selection on someone that isn't ogin to help them immeidatley?

This is my thought. I could see a team like the Hawks (picks 35, 41, & 44) using one of their 2nd round picks to grab him, but I just can't see teams using a 1st round pick on him where he's at today... he needs to develop more, and 1st round picks in the NBA just don't often get used on projects.

I'm with you. I'm actually ok with him going to the Draft if it means 1st round pick this year... Would do wonders for Crean's "pitch" which is already clearly good. But... if I'm in his shoes, I'd want to come back and put a good year of S&C development (he's clearly not thick enough to hang in a 4/5 slot in the NBA today) as well as be surrounded by a *very* talented incoming freshman class.

Claxton is much better at handling the ball than either of those guys, and Yante was actually awesome this year in the G League. He just got hurt when he was finally called up to play. I’m hopeful he’ll get his chance next year.

that's true, my main point was that yante is potentially a top 2-4 player we've ever had in our history and has not really registered much of a blip on an NBA roster to this point (not that he can't or isn't capable of it). I say that to say, that if Clax thinks that he will automatically make a roster and start getting minutes in year 1 I think that's a bit too ambitious.

That makes sense. If Yante was Claxton’s size, he would have absolutely been drafted, but he’s 3-4 inches shorter than NBA scouts want in their big men. Claxton is at least long, but I don’t get this idea that he can shoot. He was 28% from 3, and 64% from the line this season.

If I’m an NBA scout, and think he can play a stretch 4, I need him to at least up each those numbers by 5% next season.

Spot on. And I would say it's fair to assume that part of those numbers were due to the amount of attention Claxton got defensively this year as one of the only viable threats. Couple another year of development with better surrounding talent in Athens, and a 5% uptick should be not only possible, but highly likely. He might have a decrease to total production, but it seems like percentages typically matter a lot more to scouts so long as the sample size isn't insanely small.

Claxton has until tomorrow to determine if he’s coming back. Most projections have him on the outside looking in... his best projected draft pick is 26 to Cleveland.

In other basketball news... Crean just said we’re not done... some experts are predicting Precious Achiuwa committing to UGA... The next week should be interesting either way.
