Pittsburgh is 12-10 and 1-8 in the ACC, but they only lost to North Carolina on the road by 2, at Louisville by 5, and Notre Dame by 1. They are legit and should be on the bubble. Those close losses count.
No team 7 games under .500 in their league is sniffing the tourney, nor should they.

Pitt isn't gonna finish under 500 man. No way. When you can almost beat good teams, you have proven your worth.

Yes they do count. They count as losses.

I feel UGA gets some quality wins down the stretch and they don't have any more bad losses, the OT loses to good teams on the road could come into play as a tie breaker so to speak. If they go on a run at the end here, they will have enough quality wins. If they split them and lose to UF, SC, and KY and don't do much in the SEC tourney, they will be mid pack NIT... this isn't a black and white situation and there is a lot left on the table...

Another close loss to a good team to put on our resume. Gonna be hard to keep us out of the dance now. Can't deny fox's greatness. You really got to feel for sc fans being stuck with a guy like Martin.

I think DoubleDawg's bracketology has us at like a 5 seed right now.
Too low IMO.

Soooooo, we firing Fox or what?
Posted on 2/5/17 at 7:36 am to crispyUGA
They need to fire GM first, otherwise we'll have to endure another shitty hire. Look at our team sports at UGA, I can't remember it being this bad. We all agree that Fox's time is up, but I have zero faith we make a quality hire. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

I agree with this
Unfortunately if Kirby does well, that will keep GM safe, which blows

Not sure how or why that would be the case. GM is the "athletics director" not football director. If every single sport we have other than football is mediocre at best, and doing no better than they were the day GM was hired, I don't see how he could possibly stay for several more years.

Because the sad truth is, if football is good, most people don't care about any of the other sports. At least not 1/10 as much as they do football.

I totally agree and that's fine, but you're talking about the fanbase. The AD, president, and other bigwigs shoudln't care about the fans, they shoudl care about how the athletics deparmtent as a whole is functioning. And right now it's about as lousy as it's been in decades.

Here's the thing:
Every major D1 athletic program has essentially 2 revenue producing outlets and that's Football and Basketball.
Vollyeball? From a practicality standpoint, it exists simply because of Title IX
Gymnastics? Same thing. Maybe it produces a little bit of revenue but not enough to justify firing Durante and seeking out someone that emulates Yoculan's success.
Baseball? It CAN be a revenue producing sport but given that state of UGA's facilities, that would require a pretty hefty investment on the front end to expand seating and, then, to bring in a top flight coach to produce at a high rate on the reg. What do I, the fan, think? Open the fricking reserve and make it happen. What does an Atheltic Department that is operating in the black consistently think? Why bother.
Basketball? This is the only one I can point at and wonder what the hell we're doing from a competition AND revenue standpoint. So much untapped potential on both ends and yet it has gone untapped for years now.

Ehh, when you consider that the fans ultimately pay the bills you don't really have a choice but to care.

what I was getting at is that it's the AD's JOB to make these sports as good as they can be, that's literally what he's here for. Whether the fans care about basketball or not shouldn't be of any concern.
But I get what you're saying too.

Other than football our entire AD has been meh for a few years and he's still here. If football gets to the levels we believe it can, it won't matter about the other sports. It's the truth whether it's right or not. You don't get rid of the AD that's competing for championships in your biggest revenue producing sport even if the other programs are not garbage
