I just read the summary on the “other board”. Seems plausible. I wouldn’t say undressing the kid in a scrimmage is public shaming, but I get it.

Have things changed this much? When I played football just about every single player on the team got dressed down at some point. Coaches are not allowed to yell at players now?

This is not our days of youth. Kids today are far different than when we were growing up. And, most of them get the royal treatment in HS because of their ability to play football at a high level.

Well....close. We did have face masks, though.
But seriously. Kids don't get yelled at anymore? I haven't been to a practice at any level in well....decades.

They have so many options now and their parents have just given them pretty much anything they want that a large number of them are mentally soft in a lot of ways.

The line for me when my kids were playing was aggressive physical bullying by a coach.
I had a coach literally grab me by the facemask and throw me down one time when I fricked up. That was too far. I also had a coach who smelled of alcohol and made personal attacks about kids and their families. Nothing to do with football. He was arrested for beating his wife and later was decapitated when he rolled his jeep while drunk, so it sorted itself out.
My kids did get yelled at by coaches for fricking up and they needed it and it worked. Sometimes, you need to be a little embarrassed and challenged to light that fire. They never had a situation where a coach crossed the line, but there was a situation where a coach dragged one of their teammates off the field by the facemask and kinda threw him. I most certainly called that dude out and it never happened again while they played there.

Wow. I can remember coaches slapping the side of our helmets (not hard but enough to get our attention), kicking the seat of our pants (again not too hard but enough to get our attention) and yelling pretty much non stop.
I guess I am getting old.

There is nothing quite like being out of breath, late in the 4th quarter after playing both ways and having your coach come over during a time out with a Hav a Tampa blazing... the thick smoke has you coughing as you are trying to catch your breath .... and he is yelling at you to shut up as the smoke and the coughing has you even more out of breath. Whenever I smell cigar smoke, I think of that moment and that coach.

Even in the '60s we got royal treatment in school and in the community. We had a few teachers that told players they still better do the work and pass the tests, but even those teachers helped out a struggling player. The difference these days is social media allows players all across the country to be in contact and to know what is happening everywhere.
College coaching staffs may not contact players on other teams but you can bet that guys that met at camps while in high school still keep in touch with each other.

We used to get showers after a road game then get on the bus. Had to keep the windows up because it was cold, and the coaches would start smoking their cigars. Like you, whenever I smell a cigar I think of football. Pavlov's dog kind of thing, I guess.

Broke mind during spring practice during a scrimmage and played 2-3 plays after it. I was not in a play but could tell my collarbone was broken and went to the sideline and told the coach. he didn't believe me because I had not hit anybody in the previous play. They finally cut my jersey off of me and had somebody take me to the hospital.
I saw a kid cut his chin open pretty nastily and during a game and they called a doctor out of the stands and he sewed him up along the sidelines at halftime with no anesthesia.
