I saw this coming. Too much competition in front of him.

Noise on Nolan says he wants to stay in Colege Station, but I heard Georgia is #2 with Tenner @3
Then why did he enter the portal?

Probably to put pressure on A&M. He could withdraw his name and no harm no foul as far as future portal eligibility

Complete leadership change is a good reason to explore options in any field.
There's been zero info to suggest he's anything other than a hard working kid with a lot of talent from a good family.

I’m guessing we will be a desirable destination for those in the portal as well.

I sure hope so. We've been very boom or bust in the portal.
'21- Derion Kendrick and Tykee Smith. Major contributors. Definitely needed (both of them)
'22- Nobody added, I don't think
'23- Rara and Lovett huge pickups at position of need. RB Whitehead from Tennessee and smoke bouie complete non-factors.
4 guys over 3 years that have been good portal pickups for us. I guess averaging slightly over 1 big pickup per offseason isn't really BAD, but it seems like with the state of our program it could be better.

How exactly could it do better? Gotta fit the culture and all.

Boom or Bust? lol. That's damn good in my book. Damn good.
That list does make me feel really good about the guy they've already signed. I'm sure this staff will address roster issues very well.
One worry: Fran Brown was instrumental at pulling in DBs. I'm confident, but I'd like to see that there's no drop-off pulling those guys in this cycle.

sheer numbers. Again, we are the premiere program in all of CFB the last almost 3 years. MAybe the teeniest bit of luster has come off in the last 4 days but I mean even besides that, there are practically no other programs that can match us on anything football related. Bull shite NIL money is another topic that I have no idea on.
I would just think that based on what we have going for us, we could expect more than 1 contributor a year. And as much as guys like rara and derion kendrick have played well for us, they aren't really knocking down the All american lists like guys like jameson williams and jhamyr gibbs did for bama.

We don’t pad stats for individual players so it’s harder to get players in

Mekhi Mews just entered the portal.

He never even had a scholarship, did he? Maybe they can teach him to hold onto the ball

Mews is dangerous as a kick returner, but these days the kickers and coverage units are so good, you hardly ever get to see a return. So not a huge loss there. There was speculation of him getting some decent work at RB, especially with our injury deficit this year, but it apparently didn't work out. Not surprised to see him transfer. I could see him going to Tech.

Evans did a nice job in the title game. I'd rather see him out there instead of Mews. At 5'8" 185 he isn't going to last long playing RB and isn't tall enough to play WR.

I don’t think he’ll have to settle for Tech if he’s looking to move to Atlanta. I’m sure Georgia State would take him.

Mews may have a chance to actually be on scholarship somewhere else. I am sure that all these guys are going with Kirby’s blessing. He made a comment the other day about some guys moving on to places where they will have an opportunity to shine.

Oh 100%. It won't be at an alabama but he is absolutely good enoguh to get a scholarhip and play somewhere pretty decent. Even though his film isn't super long it's good enough in the SEC for a program like ours to get him some time. HOnestly I'd do the same if I was him. Nobody wanted him out of HS, he walked on here and isn't on scholarship, so if he can get paid to go somewhere and actualloy see the field go ahead

After his incident I knew he wasn't going to make an impact.
