Only concern with Matta is his health. If he's healthy, we need to throw the check book at him because he'd be a home run hire.

He should have no issues finding pain meds here.

Any concerns on thad's health? That's a bit worrisome I suppose, it'd be a little deflating to get a grand slam hire like matta and have him building us up then he's gone in 2 years to retire for good then we're back to square one.
That's a risk UGA has to take if he wants the job, imo. UGA isn't going to find a more respected coach.
On the plus side, UGA is a pretty low-stress job as far as power 5 basketball jobs go. You could theoretically succeed with a lot less travel as well.

I never had him on my radar because of his health, but yeah, if he is healthy, I dont think there is anyone better out there.
You can attribute the bad last few years to his health, and even then, he won 20 games up until his last year.
He can recruit. Had 6 or 7 recruiting classes in the top 10, and he can recruit the south. I believe he got 3 guys out of Georgia while he was at Ohio State, and another couple from Florida.
There is no down size to his hire other than the health question marks.

He may look older as well, but he’s only 50. If healthy, he could still coach for a while.

The SEC has been a football conference with a few good BBall teams since forever. You can bull shite some of the dudes on here, but I’m old enough to have lived it sir/m’am
I don’t know the answer, but how many years has the SEC gotten 8 teams in? Can’t imagine it’s too many.
What did I say that is BS? You dont seem to be reading what I am writing.

Hiring Thad Matta would really fire up and unite the base. I feel like it would be similar to the Harrick hiring without all of the baggage.

Are Matta's health issues serious? What particular health issues is he dealing with?
Posted on 3/12/18 at 12:24 pm to HTDawg
Back issues from a bad surgery, his right foot doesn’t function at 100%.
Apparently he coaches from a stool.

“He kept his job for so long thanks to a weak sec though, so he was more fortunate than otherwise. This was his chance to prove that idea wrong and he didn't.”
You imply that the SEC was not normal during his tenure. It was normal SEC basketball.
By my math, he played 20 games against tourney teams and won 8. That’s not anywhere close to normal SEC.... ever.
We need more than a coach. We need a commitment from the AD that we are going to keep up with the upper tier teams in the SEC. we will need that to recruit the level of talent needed to make the tourney while playing 20 tourney teams per season...

You are wrong. The sec had been better than you choose to remember.
It led the nation in bids 5x from 98-04 and had 22 bids from 05-08. It had 6 bids 8x from 99-08.
Things changed in 2009 when the sec was as bad as it had ever been, and it didn't recover until 2018.
Until this season, Fox undoubtedly benefitted from a down sec and favorable sec schedule added to it in 2014 and 2016. Open your eyes.

How many conferences also had the same numbers in the tourney where you used the term “led the nation in bids”?

Not sure, but That's ultimately an irrelevant detail in regards to the overall point. Shared or not, the point stands.

In 2014, the SEC had the most wins of any conference in the tourney. See how that works?
Posted on 3/12/18 at 6:07 pm to Peter Buck
So? Only 3 total sec teams made the dance, and only one as a high seed, which is evidence of a weaker than normal sec. 6 was the norm from 99-08. Apparently you did not know that and now that you do, you are fighting a losing battle against that reality.
8 seed uk and 1 seed uf both made the final 4.
Want to take a wild guess and tell us which team lucked out and did not play either of the 2 best sec teams 2x in sec play?

Hey... this is like an argument between two jackasses (not you two theoretically) fighting over a single turnip... Who gives a shite... we hire Matta or Crean we’re a top 20 program in 2 years.
