If beating Alabama is your big goal, that's fine. It's not UGA or Kirby Smart's ultimate goal.
I agree with your logic but winning the SECCG is obviously not our biggest goal considering we won 2 out of the last 3 NCs.
But as IT_Dawg said, it is one goal and winning one game in a coin flip is a lot more likely than winning a series of games in the playoffs.
Let's play The Price Is Right.
1. You have a 50/50 chance against one contestant to win a new car and if you win you move to the next round with a chance to win a new house vs 4 contestants.
2. Or you pass on the door with a chance win the car and you move on to the next round vs the 4 contestants.
Which do you choose?
I'm taking the more likely smaller bird in the hand over the larger bird in the bush considering I have a bad leg and I will be limping over to the bush. hahaa

Winning the SEC Championship in a stacked year like this would be a feat, and yes, it IS ONE of our team's goals.
To reiterate, I didn't say it wasn't one of our goals, I said it wasn't our ultimate goal. If playing in the SECCG reduces our overall odds of winning a national championship (I think it does), then I'd prefer not to play in that game.
No SEC coach will admit to it publicly, but I suspect many of them have the same thought process. Many fans and pundits see it too. That's why there's so much debate on this topic of whether playing for the conference championship is the best path to a national championship. If we keep this playoff structure in future years, the SEC will have to consider dropping the SECCG altogether.

Yes, if you get a home playoff game...thats not what I argued if you were paying attention. And yes, it is still a goal of the players. Winning that game gets you a bye and a bye going into a team that you can fully prepare for (4 weeks to study 2 teams) and a bye when your opp will have to play a game and have a just 1 week to prepare for us

Like I said, that's your choice. Winning it all is UGA's main goal every year. Playing for the SEC is fine, but if it makes it more difficult to reach your main goal, then it loses a lot of value. Lane Kiffin said recently that other SEC coaches see it this way. I have no way of knowing if his statement is accurate, but it makes perfect sense.

If you presume we will make the playoffs regardless if we win/lose the SECCG, I would rather play in it for a chance at the bye and not play a first round game on the road and only have a week to prepare for a top 4 team

It is a goal, but not the main goal. And in a league where there's this much parity among top teams, playing in the SECCG with a 50/50 chance of winning does not improve your odds of winning a national championship, in fact it reduces your odds. That's because the downside 50% is a much tougher post-season slate with an extra game and still a tough road opener with the significant risk of a less healthy team entering the playoffs.

People will eventually figure out that going forward, the SECCG is about as important as the SEC basketball tournament. If you don't need to win it to get into the NCAA tournament, then playing in it doesn't do anything for you.

^^^ Win the SECCG and get 25 days between games.

Go Gatas.
It would be great if Indiana gets buried by tOSU and we get a home game against them than the SEC title game against Bama.

Huh…. Florida could beat Ole Miss and Auburn could beat TAM very easily.

And now imagine a world where those things happen, and we lose to GT and somehow win the SEC CG…
fricking chaos

We’re gonna end up having to play Bama again aren’t we?

If I'm being honest i want to avoid all dual threats. I do not want the SEC championship. UNLESS we lose and get homefield advantage.
