So - after Smart and Pruitt work our offers into massive pay raises at their current schools, who is our third choice?

Obviously they're on a different level of competitive (crazy) but at some point somebody over there is going to realize that Saban is their bell cow and, while integral, Smart can be replaced.
The flip side of all of this is I wonder how long before the Bama AD tires of Smart entertaining overtures by UGA every 5 years (much like we had to deal with Garner and Auburn). They have to know that Kirby only lingers around T-Town in hopes that he can snag the Bama job. But how long and how much are they willing to pay the guy to basically wait around for an interview?

To be fair, the last time general consensus was Smart verbally committed and was flipped at the last minute by the midget lucifer. That probably surprised everyone.
I would hope that the powers that be know who are realistic targets prior to starting this whole circus. Also, I don't buy ADMG's "I'm not involved" for a minute. Guys like that can't afford to be embarrassed. You can bet your arse that calls have been made and they already knew how this would play out (for the most part).
I would hope that's the case anyway....

I disagree. There are tons of great candidates with great resumes. Pruit and Smart are great adds but there are tons of other guys with proven resumes. If we miss on those 2 we need to have good fall back plans. An internal promotion of Kirk is unacceptable.

To be honest, I'm not sure our defense could possibly be any worse than this year, regardless of if we're transitioning to something new or not.
And while I understand the schemes are fairly different, it's still the same players making plays. As long as the 11 on the field are actually properly coached up, I don't think it matters what defense we run, we'll be far better off in 2014 than 2013.

I guess as long as I don't have to watch Amarlo Herrera chew another guy out for blowing a coverage, it will be improvement.
