By that argument, we should just promote our LB coach Kirk Olivadotti. He would probably salivate over the chance to be a DC at $500K/year and who's to say he isn't the next hot commodity.

I hope like hell this is not true. I would really rather have coach O promoted than have this happen.
I don't think there is a single thing to be gleaned from 1 season as a DC in the ACC. Even one in which a Natty was won.
