His contract now it $1.15 Mil and this year and next is 1.35 mil. Only a three year deal, but I doubt he takes 1.5 to come to UGA.

I"ve said it before, but the notion we won't spend on coaches is simply crazy talk.
-We made Grantham, with zero track record in college, a top 3 paid DC in America.
-We offered nearly DOUBLE mike anderson's salary to come here before he turned us down.
-We offered fox, a guy no one had heard of with moderate success across the country, over $1M (can't remember specifically) which seemed like a headscratcher, but we felt he was legit.
You can talk about lack of 28 secret assistant coaches or IPFs or whatever all day, but we've shown that when we really want a coach, we'll spend. And the guys above (minus Anderson, who we struck out on) weren't even really proven at a high level. A guy like Kirby, who is every single thing we could want in a coordinator PLUS the potential to maybe be HC material within 5-10 years...I just don't see any possible reason why we wouldnt' spend what it takes.
Obviously we're not going to offer him HC type money as a DC, but 1.5 is a pretty solid starting offer. Wouldnt' surprise me to see it go up either, if that's what it took. Mcgarity (I really, sincerely hope..) isn't an idiot. This is a program changing hire, and that's not hyperbole when I say that. This is going to be one of the biggest hires we've made in a while, and it very well could shape the next decade of UGA football. If mcgarity realizes that, he won't piddle around over a few extra K.
