Like the one he is going to have under smart nor the offensive talent he will have by default.

Wanted an older oc anyway, not from the nfl, sounds like his o is exactly what smart wanted.

Choke on them biscuits you trolling arse pussies...

I agree with OP.

Might not LOOK like a great hire but I will absolutely take the COMBINATION.

Cheney was Kiffen's OC in his one year at Tennessee. I wonder how much of this decision could be based on a Kiffen recommendation..since he and Smart are buddies.

I honestly think it is the right hire for us. Chaney explayers speak highly of him and we are an upgrade over everywhere else he has coached.

Bad asset oline hire. Richt never comprehended the axiom about the trenches.

I've watched some Cheney interviews on YouTube and am feeling better about it now.

Seems very intelligent and like he's probably a good dude at least.

I think Kirby clearly wanted Pittman after how much he talked about the trenches. He goes after Enos first, his current OC then Chaney whom he's also worked with. Pittman was the key here

This hire is all about the TRENCHES.
Smart is a defensive guy but if you think he doesn't have an offensive plan you'd be wrong (not directed at op).
His plan is to win the trenches. He did what he had to do to get Pittman after he couldn't get Enos.

It's a major benefit for us that the two have already worked together. For sure.

I'm liking the way Kirby thinks.

Is my profanity filter on? You can say "arse".

I don't know enough about these guys to say one thing or another. I wouldn't think Smart would hire them if he didn't believe that they could get the job done. Kirby knows what he needs to win championships.

I like the hire. It's not flashy but he's developed very good college QBs in the past and has called plays for 3 different offensive styles. We also went out and nabbed one of the best OL coaches in the nation, it seems, because of this hire. Pitt didn't put up great numbers this year but their star RB was lost for the year after his 8th carry of the season and they don't have near the talent that we do. He's not going to come in and light the world on fire while changing the face of college football, a la Spurrier and the Florida fun n' gun, but I think he'll run a balanced offense that will be good enough to win us most games we play; if we can get our D to play anywhere near as good as Bama's on a consistent basis, then I think the sky is the limit.

Like I said before...KS has coached against this guy a number of times so there must be something there that he likes.

I like the direction Smart is going. Great offensive line hire and EXPERIENCED coordinator. I trust him to make good decisions. That's why he's the head man. He's going to fix the line problems and that goes a long way toward offensive and defensive success.

I don't hate this hire at all.

Remember what a trainwreck Nathan Peterman was? Chaney turned that guy into a solid QB at Pitt.

And he's never managed more than 13 points or so against Smart's defense in 5 attempts. Other than failure, would love to know what he did see. :/

Want to like the hire, but it just doesn't make sense on paper.

Checking in to the turd polisher thread.

Geez. I'm gone for a whole day and Agent Smart hires Jabba the Hut-Hut-Hut??

If we lose Eason over this, I'll never forgive Kirby.
