Revisiting Newman & Daniels before UF

So, this weekend I was talking to someone who has some connections from the 1980 squad and he mentioned a couple of things.
1) Newman and UGA 'parted ways' because Newman had engaged with an agent and UGA couldn't risk playing him. I never heard this but it seemed like a more reasonable explanation as to why with two weeks to go UGA had to go a different direction. Anyone else heard something like this?
2) With JT Daniels he said that the UGA doctors have cleared him, but that his personal/family doctor has not and that he's making the decision himself not to play. Anyone else heard something like this?
Anyway, something to think about.

yes that has been speculated for some time

seems like a weird decision to transfer and not want to play, but maybe he had a setback. who knows

The one thing I have heard about JT aligns with that above. Reason I believe it is because I think that JT probably came here with the thoughts and I’d bet he was even told that he was gonna be the 2021 guy. So Newman bolts and while UGA clears him he doesn’t feel ready or his doctor doesn’t and he’s not going to risk his future going in because of unforeseen circumstances that he himself didn’t create.
It’s just really shitty timing and luck.

Thanks for sharing but kinda sounds like the same Message Board fodder we have gotten since the beginning.

So if this is the case, at what point do we try Beck? If everyone is assuming D’Wan has/had the scares following the hit and JT is not going to play, seems like the next logical move? Unless Kirby is happy with this offense and then what we are seeing is symptom and not the whole virus.

This seems plausible. Basically, JT didn't expect to start this season and wanted to use this suspect Covid-19 season to recover from his surgery and learn our offensive system.
So Daniels: Sorry things didn't work out with Newman but that doesn't change my perspective.
And objectively, I can't blame him.

That would make more sense than #MuhPandemic

Rumors starting to swirl that Mathis will be in the portal today.

Just read that on two sites. No confirmation, though.
Wouldn't blame him if it's true.

FWIW I think he removed most of his UGA related stuff off of his Instagram, but has since put it back up.
I can’t even confirm this but that’s what I read.

It is just so stupid.
Otis Reese would be playing last week and starting this week in the second biggest game of the year.
Divaad Wilson would be a huge part of the gameplan as well.

These kids have no stomach for the long game. There's always attrition in the middle stretch of the season due to the physical nature of the game as it is. Throw in a topsy-turvy wrinkle like the pandemic nonsense when your best player could pull a positive test and have to quarantine for 10 days, at the drop of a hat, and transferring out is one of the dumbest things you can do, if playing time is your complaint.

Transferring works out a lot for QBs. The last 3 #1 overall draft picks would probably agree.
For other positions not so much.

More often than not it doesn’t work out.

I disagree when it comes to QBs. A guy transfers and either he gets playing time and shows he can play or he's not good enough whether or not he sees the field, which means he probably wouldn't have won the job anyway.
I don't see the drawback.

Couldn't blame him. He aint from Georgia or the south and he won the job and lost it with what, 4 possessions, all stymied by penalties??? If it happens and he goes on to somewhere else and has a stellar career the book is closed on Smart and QBs.
Meanwhile Bennet can toss interceptions left and right and when he doesn't throw an interception cant get the ball beyond the LOS and he is the starter and there ain't no looking back.
Gonna start getting tough to recruit QBs if it continues, if it ain't already tough. Fotunately we don't need a 5 star Heisman candidate to win 9-10 a year....unfortunately winning 9-10 a year ain't what we are supposed to be about. Its what we do but we are supposed to be better than that....
