Eason had the same problem. He badly needed a redshirt year.

QB Situation for 2023

There is no situation. Beck is QB 1 going into next year and he's earned it. He's the first guy in to get reps and he looks the part. He doesn't stare down receivers and he goes thru progressions like a seasoned guy and that's why he will be QB 1. I don't care about how many high school stars the other dudes had....Beck is the guy.

Well, if I recall correctly, Beck had a fifth star at the start of his senior season, and lost it after his numbers went down.

So, he was a five star QB as well?

Maybe?

If I recall, Beck played in a competitive High School league and he lost a lot of the talent around him his senior year.

Yep. Something like that. Had a big time receiver that he was tossing to his junior year. Was a slash commitment for us. Then, senior year, his numbers weren't as good and he lost a star, and some of the sensationalized press.

I've got to admit, I've been impressed with his mechanics this year in mop up, after loathing him last year when he threw a fricking interception and came off the field smiling (Vandy? South Carolina? Can't recall...)

I'm also loving his commitment to staying with the team, when so many others with his talent would have taken the transfer portal.

I hear people calling for Gunnar over Brock, and I'm just sitting here thinking that Carson stayed for a fricking reason. The job runs through him, next year, and not because of some imaginary "my turn" scenario. Those two will have to work to beat out the talent he's shown, and that, no matter what happens, is a good thing.

It’s not his turn, but it is his job to lose and he certainly looks better this year.

Branching off the discussion just a bit, I suppose we have given up on getting Arch. I saw where we picked up a commitment in the 2024 class from a QB out of Connecticut. 3 star kid. Great size and arm strength. Throws a 93 mph fastball.

We were probably Arch or nothing for this class, which tells me that Kirby and Monken aren't desperate at the position, which should bring us all comfort with regards to the state of the QB room after this year.

That how I read it, anyway.

A guy I know in Connecticut says he can throw on target 70 yards and hit a runner in stride.

I read some scouting on him that pretty much confirms that. His arm is his strength. Also, he is going to get his fourth star, as he is just now jumping on the recruiting services radar.

As always, take the star shite with a grain of salt. Does the commitment make the stars? It seems to have been true, at times, with the "Bama Bump".
