It's that last phrase that causes the problem. I think it will be next to impossible to determine what constitutes a legitimate business expenditure. Companies spend all kinds of money on advertising, branding, public relations. There's no easily defined ROI formula to determine how much those things are worth in terms of goodwill or branding. In a publicly traded company, the shareholders decide whether management is using good strategy to increase the value of their stock, but even then any analysis is rarely directed at a specific marketing strategy unless they do something really stupid. For private companies, who's going to analyze their deals and authoritatively say whether it's legitimate NIL or pay for play? I don't see how that can be done.
One easy way is to determine whether any actual name, image, or likeness is used in a promotional way.
Brock Bowers was doing radio commercials. The company that paid him also had to buy airtime from the radio station, and buy billboard space to put his picture up on. That is a legitimate marketing using someone's name, image, likeness.
It would not be difficult at all for a governing body to decide if a NIL deal is legitimate or not.

The courts have said that athletes' rights to profit from their NIL can't be infringed or regulated.
And?
I can think of a shining example of something that's specifically enumerated as an inalienable right that is not only infringed upon from hell to breakfast, but has also been regulated to death.

Sorry Brother, I try to disengage from conversations when someone devolves from conversationalist to full arse. You’re clearly more emotionally involved in this subject than I am so you can have it all to yourself.

You are a full-on clown. You just got dunked on, with receipts.

Don't let my tendency to go full arse dissuade you from making your case. If I'm wrong, in the short or long run, I'm willing to admit it. I've eaten crow more than once on this board, most notably for repeatedly criticizing Kirby Smart as a bad choice for UGA head coach. I've owned it several times; I was completely wrong.
But, having figured that out, I'm not gonna easily concede that Kirby's greatest successes were simply due to a lucky break that he "fell into" a very, very good college QB, particularly when it's someone that Kirby handpicked and, against all odds, developed from walk-on into four-time playoff MVP. IMO, for everything that Kirby owes Stetson, Stetson owes Kirby many times as much and I hope he realizes that.

Let’s also not forget he was the only coach of a major program to offer Ladd McConkey….and we all know how that turned out.

In other news we lost the Grace OLB/DE kid to Kentucky yesterday. And Damon Wilson still hasn’t committed to OSU so still hope?

Wouldn't hold out hope for Wilson. Rusty said pretty emphatically that he is Mizzou or OSU bound

Was it money? Dude was set to be a high-profile starter...
Posted on 1/13/25 at 11:33 am to Spaceman Spiff
Money probably involved some but he wants to play in a different scheme so he can more sacks
Posted on 1/13/25 at 11:36 am to K9
Aside from money I will never get the appeal of Mizzou.

At this stage are we safe in saying this is it for the portal this go around?
Posted on 1/13/25 at 12:04 pm to SquatchDawg
isn't it open for 5 days after the championship?
Posted on 1/13/25 at 12:11 pm to Spaceman Spiff
Only for Notre Dame and OSU players
No more UGA players can leave unless a coach leaves. Drop/add final day is today so don't see us being able to add any more unless it happens quick. That's what rusty is saying anyways.

Yea I think we could squeeze the academic calendar if some special guy came available but we’re mostly done.

Apparently we are back trying to get that Purdie QB that committed to UF..
He wants out of UF for some reason. Some saying because he thought he was guaranteed a starting job over Lagaway lol but idk if that's true or not.

Also in on CJ Ogbonna, QB from Buffalo. Went to Wheeler in Marietta.

Hearing tOSU bowed out on Wilson. The NIL deal he signed before last season included a $400K buyout and the Bucknuts are balking at paying it.
Have also read Texas is interested and would pay it, so that may be where he ends up. It won’t be in Athens for sure; Daddy Wilson is salty about UGA.

Reading reports that Deion Sanders is a serious candidate for the Cowboys job. IF he we was to leave CU I wonder what our chances are at getting Ju Ju?
