Miami now the projected landing spot for Branch … don’t know what to say at this point lol

I could be wrong but, completely aside from possibly being outbid for WR, it is entirely possible that all these guys are being negatively recruited on the basis of offensive dysfunction at UGA and “who is the QB?”. “Georgia doesn’t sling it around enough to give you sexy stats for the draft”
Valid or not, these are pretty easy tools to use on WR, who are generally one of the dumber position groups with the most diva personalities. They want to have guarantees of 15 balls a game thrown their way so, even if they only catch 9…they have gaudy numbers.

Funny you mention that..before the game Rusty said this will be an important game because we are getting negatively recruited for Gunner.
He was being pitched as a "running QB" on trail. Hopefully that performance from him last night quiets that. We threw the ball a lot this year... probably too much.
Pay will have to be increased regardless I think.

Arian Smith and Dillon Bell would probably both have 1000 yards this year if they could catch a cold. Smith certainly would.

Arian for sure.
Dom got targeted s shite ton and never really took advantage. Figure that would be a good pitch for Branch but idk.
if they don't commit before they leave campus, I consider these portal dudes a lost.

I think it’s pretty obvious that the biggest issue is money. Stats are fine and all, but if the money was right I don’t think UGA would be having any issues signing portal WRs.

Just because he is willing to doesn’t mean he should be

So we end the season yesterday and everyone comes home.
How long before we get more kids go to the portal?

And if we dont get the NIL thing handled, we are gonna take some net losses the next few years

And I'm OK with that.
I would rather have players who want to be at UGA as opposed to guns for hire who aren't interested in school affiliation.
Our university is an institution of learning.
I would guess that the priority of our administrators are student athletes, not professional athletes in college.
And yes, I know I am delusional, but I wouldn't have a problem with UGA dropping out of the NCAA and the SEC to be independent or form a league of like minded universities who want Student Athletes and have no NIL affiliation and with limited portal transfers.

The NIL thing is tough. By all accounts, UGA raises top 5-10 money, but with so many highly recruited HS players, retention costs a lot and leaves relatively little left over for pursuing transfers.

My dad and brother were talking about this last year.
I would sign up to watch walk ons play for UGA vs Auburn walk ons every day of the week. I love college football and I love rooting for my alma mater. As long as it's an equal playing field for everyone I'm good, no matter who is in the jersey.

I’m sure Kirby is going to hate it but, the days of building the relationship with players from PeeWee league all the way through high school as a recruiting device are gone.
He will need to adjust to expending the majority of his time and resources to constantly evaluating every player currently on the roster at each position for ROI vs players of the same position available in the portal. Cut loose the underperforming players and get their higher performing replacement from the portal.
No one is going to have a “culture” anymore. It’s just going to be about how well you adapt to bringing in equal or better talent due to turnover.
I blame Ed O’ Bannon for the entire thing.

Yea, but if the NCAA hadn't fought it so hard and just gave a small concession, like giving them jersey and video game revenue upon graduating, this would have all been over then and there...

Maybe…I think human nature is to continue to push for more and more on the basis of equity until the golden goose lays no more and the pyramid is upside down. The road to Hell is paved with good intentions.
It may have stopped where you think it would have, but I suspect it would still have continued on the path it’s on now. It just would have been a slower process.

Just start following Division II if you feel that high-minded about it. The Blazers are always tough and West Georgia is really building something.

Anthony Evans in the portal. Lots of potential but if he couldn’t play much with this group maybe he’s not that great. I know for damn sure he don’t care a lick about blocking. Not too worried about this one.
