I’ve seen him watching his kids playing ball at the Y and he was on his phone half the time. Hell, I work a lot a feel guilty my spending more time with my kids. I can only imagine what he goes through. I give him 5-10 years tops.

One thing that I've learned, having a daughter and watching her grow up into a young lady:
It's extremely important, to them, for you to be there constantly when they are very young, but less so as they mature.
My daughter is asserting her independence, which is wonderful, a little at a time. However, she absolutely wants me there for her as she rides in her big events (horses) or has some other function at which she can show off her abilities.
I can imagine that, by the time she reaches adulthood, she won't really want me around much at all, which, I suppose, is part of the process.
I guess that I am implying that if you are trying to spend time with and be there for your children, it's not 10 years down the road, because they are going to be busy doing their own shite. It's right now.
Which sucks, because most parents aren't financially secure enough to back off from work to do so when they are young, and by the time that the ability is there, the children are grown and less inclined to have the desire.
Not really sure what this has to do with Kirby. Just rambling now, I guess.
Oh. Yeah.
I've heard rumblings about a mandatory vacation period for College Football Coaches, where every part of the organization would have to be off, with no contact with anyone. Supposedly to allow these folk to step away from the pressure that has enveloped the industry to better connect with their families.
Not sure if there is anything to that, and I'm definitely certain that it would be unpolicable and abused, but it does sound like a good idea for families.
Hell, Kirby would probably be the one to abuse it.
I'm certain that there are a lot of men in the industry that are strangers in their own house but, then, that's probably true in a lot of industries.
It has to take a toll.

"Seen but not heard".
That's what the older kids want.
My kids did cross country, volleyball, softball, wrestling, basketball, swim, soccer, tennis, and track.
They did academic bowl, robotics, boy and girl scouts.
As they get older and more independent, they want the security blanket of presence. But little to no interaction.
I used to live an hour away from my high school. I vividly remember looking up into the football stands and realizing that my parents weren't out there.
I remember leaving a project at home and my folks saying tough shite.
Teenagers like "in case of emergency, break glass" parents. Not much more than that.
Coaching college football "is not the job that Kirby signed up for".
It is 19 hour days 360 days a year.
I don't see him as a head coach much longer. 5 years? 7?
I can see him becoming an analyst. I can see him finding a way to stay in the game on his terms. Money won't be an issue. Cutting his hours by 75% will be the issue.

Dabo might think he's man enough to fill the void. It would be glorious to see his failing in the attempt, because that would weaken Clemson while simultaneously taking all the wind out of Bama.
I actually think Dabo is smart enough not to take it. I believe when his time at Clemson is done, he will be done coaching. He seems like he despises the NIL and portal shite and he's already made enough money for the next several generations of Swinneys to not have to work.

Can you see him as an Athletic Director? I'm certain he could do the job.

I can see that. Work 5-7 more years as HC, win 2 more titles, then AD for 5-10 years.

in 5-10 years his kids will be at an age where they don't wanna spend several hours a week with their dad.

I've heard that's what the recruiting dead period was for, going back many years. A time when coaches during the offseason could take it easy for a few weeks.

That's another one of those jobs where your phone rings non-stop.
If he steps away, it won't be for another executive type of position because it would defeat the purpose of stepping away, with a major pay cut.

I could see Kirby learning to delegate more once his process is fully in place. He tends to be a hands on kind of guy. I think he's learning that he can't do everything and be everywhere. Saban learned that. Kirby will.

Not to be argumentative, but some people never "learn" to delegate. It's just not in their DNA. That said, I don't necessarily think that Kirby is one that can't learn to do so.
I just know that competing is in his DNA. You can hear it in his speeches. That motherfricker hates losing and loves winning. No matter how long he stays before he hangs it up, I feel like he is injecting that DNA into a program that, perhaps, just didn't hate losing enough.
He also loves the university. I can't see him leaving without having some kind of hand in his successor, whenever that may be.

From the day he took the job and I saw how intense and committed he was to recruiting, I worried that the job would burn him out before he got to reach the top. Then along came NIL and the portal. Now he's reached the top 2 times. If he left tomorrow I'd have no hard feelings toward him. His twins are 14 and his youngest is 10. Hopefully he has learned or will learn how to juggle all the demands of both family and job.

Kirby can't keep up this current pace until he's 71 like Saban...nor do I think he wants to. Paul Feinbaum said unequivocally that the biggest obstacle to Kirby out championing the GOAT was that he will not coach 25 more years. He said that with 100% confidence declaring "he knows Kirby well". I agree with him fwiw.

I think Kirby can do it in 10. But, I'm a fricking Disney Dawg now.

I brought this up before. Kirby made some comments in his interview last year he was concerned that some coaches were getting burned out by the changes in college football like NIL and the transfer portal. I think Kirby cares most about developing young players in football and life. Kirby also knows he is 2 or 3 losing seasons away from a pink slip and in CMR's case just 2 or 3 years in a row losing to FL, Auburn, and TN away from getting fired. After hearing Kirby's fiery speeches and seeing his intensity, it has to take a toll. He looks like he has put on some weight so health will be a concern. I had to majorly lower my stress as I got to my late 40's. If I had to put a number on it I would say 8-10 years. He may take a few years off and work for the University and work on his foundation. It's weird to think about since he's only 47.

I caught those comments about being a father and husband too. At the time it kinda bothered me but after the last few days, I think that was Kirby's way of a shout-out to the family.
I think Kirby is wired so different. He loves the game, the competition, and the grind. He's worked his entire life for this moment...being a head coach and being back home. He is so hungry and driven I don't know that he can walk away.

I imagine that B-M is finally willing to back the Brinks truck up to anyone they truly have their minds set on retaining. They've done it with Monken.
