Anyone else see that throat slash at the end of the game? Woerner quickly recognized what he was doing and wrapped him up before he completed the gesture but that was weird to see. Also, earlier in the game, we didn't see what happened but I saw a ref grab Pickens by the jersey and "escort" him away from the UK sideline.
I've seen stuff like this from him all year. We all remember the unsportsmanlike penalty earlier in the year, and after that play I remember seeing Pickens walk up next to Kirby and put his arm around him, Kirby then took the kid's arm off his shoulder and pointed to the jumbotron to show him what he did.
All we've heard from the players has been stuff like "great talent, needs to just stay focused and mature" etc. There's also a very distinct difference in how Kirby talks about Blaylock compared to Pickens. He has nothing but glowing things to say about his work ethic, attitude and intelligence but with Pickens he rarely says anything despite the fact that he's our leading receiver.
All this is to say that Pickens kinda concerns me at times, hope he doesn't turn out to be a lose cannon.

Oh he is definitely a loose cannon but is also basically our only healthy receiver that does anything productive at present.
ETA: He also plays with a confidence and swagger that the offense could use more of.

The ref was separating Pickens and the UK DB because there was a little "extracurricular" activity going on after the whistle.
Overall, Pickens' attitude could end up costing us in a close game. I also don't think he always gives 100% out on the field; IE, if he knows he isn't the go-to receiver, he seems to be running at 3/4 speed on some routes. Freak athlete, though. No denying that.

You've definitely painted the picture of a 5 star freshman athlete who doesn't always act like a 40 year old mature man. Post this on the SEC rant and Auburn fans will be falling all over themselves to tell you how horrible George is. They may have watched every play of the season too and picked up another gesture that you missed.

I see what you're saying but there are plenty of highly recruited 18 year olds who conduct themselves with more maturity than Pickens, and what I've seen is trending in a bad direction. Sure. the kid is an absolute beast but these incidents suggest a kid who might be a "me first" type and possibly toxic in the locker room.
On the flip side, I will say the kid does put forth effort in blocking from what I've seen which obviously suggests he's still on board with the coaches.

I see a kid who is always one of the first ones greeting his teammates after they score, and blocks his arse off.
He definitely has a little bit of cockiness and can be a loose cannon, but nothing I’ve seen so far has me doubt him as a teammate. I think he’s been incredible in that area.

He's always been exciteable and that comes with recruiting top athletes. And you're inventing problems that aren't there in some cases. For instance, that play on the sideline was nothing; two opposing players being aggressive up to and after the whistle. Happens dozens of times every game and Pickens had already pulled back before the official stepped in to make sure it ended there. I don't see any trend at all other than a freshman playing aggressive and learning about college ball.
As there plenty more who are worse. The kid who's the leading receiver for Tennessee, Jennings, spent his first two years trying to pick a fight on every play. You act like Pickens is out of control; that's a fantasy in your own mind because he's not.

He is pretty much always the first person celebrating with his teammates when they make a big play.
Loose cannon =/= me first

Glad Woerner stopped that throat slash shvt. Pickens reminds me of
High skill set albeit emotional.

Ok. I wasn’t going to say it to stay positive. But go back and watch the pick six against USC. Pickens made no effort to catch the guy. Just walk away. May have saved a TD and the game.

By the time Pickens got his balance the kid was 10 yards away running full speed with open field and a phalanx of blockers. Swift didn't chase him either because they didn't have a prayer of catching him. Fromm's the only player who even made more than a half-hearted attempt, not because he could stop it but only because he was mad at himself.

You are being very generous calling his shite confidence and swagger. Doing a throat slash after a first down does not show confidence or swagger, it shows that you're a fricking idiot and are willing to put yourself over the team.
I'm all for celebrations after scoring and all that, bit doing just stupid shite consistently, which he is on the verge of, is that shot I don't like.
It reminds me of Ron acuna and the dumbasses defending him not running out a double in the playoffs. Plenty of confident and fun loving players are also able to use common sense and not hurt their team. Be like them.

Don’t think people were defending him. People just found it dumb that he was getting the criticism over guys like Freddie Freeman and Nick Markakis

I've seen enough to still like him but also think he's going to be a liability

I mean I saw plenty of ppl defending him. Saying you have to accept that stuff if you want him to play his game.
And not to derail the thread into a braves bitch fest, but I think there is a big difference in trying hard and failing and just not giving effort. And the shite Freddie got for calling Ronald out was stupid too. It shouldn't have been in public but Albie's, arguably Ronald's best friend did the same thing. Team leaders are supposed to call that shite out.

Oh I still like him don't get me wrong. Just don't think that shite is excusable by saying oh that's just his swagger.

Jermaine Johnson did it at the end of game a couple of weeks ago. I was surprised it was not brought up publicly. It's clearly a thing players still like to do. Hell Swift's dad did it after he made big play last year.

Enh, it's against the rules because people are pussies nowadays. That said, it's against the rules, so doing it is stupid.
