One overlooked item with Newman is with him being completely new to us and likely starting
He is going to have to have one hell of a summer passing league with our your WRs to sync up.

Burrow's league was 10,000 catches. Ours should be 11,000 spread among all our QBs and WRs.

Pickens, Blaylock, Cager, and Wolf were all brand new, and Fromm sync'd up with them okay.

I don't think that was the reason we hardly threw any intermediate and deep balls and telegraphed runs up the middle 15-20x a game.

If a QB is accurate, they're accurate. And if receivers have good hands, they can catch accurate passes.

I really don't want to center our passing game around timing throws either, which is really where the "syncing" is most necessary.

The film looks incredible on guys like Rosemy and Burton, and we know what we have in Pickins. Maybe we can bring in McKitty, and then hopefully Blaylock can get back to 100% and guys like Jackson and Bush can step up.

That said, I'm confident Newman will come in here and dedicate every waking non-class/studying minute to getting reps and syncing up with as many of our receivers as possible. He's auditioning for the NFL and has come too far to screw it up with lack of effort.

That's pretty much all WR's catching from Juggs Guns and asst coaches. Not sure about any league.

It was more about WR's catching the ball BUT our WR's absolutely need to do this.

BTW if LSU's WR's did this 10,000 catch thing strictly during the off season summer workouts it woulda been impossible to achieve 10,000.catches without breaking NCAA rules for 8 hour workout limits per week

Your post is completely wrong. Utterly.

Catching the ball at that level is a reflex built through repetition.

Before Fromms accuracy went to hell, players you names dropped several passes that were catchable.

A rythem passing game is even more dependent on repetition.

Burrows 10,000 pass catch goal/league he ran with his WRs helped LSU more than any scheme... It is why he made the biggest leap forward ever in under a year without the most highly sough after WRs.

Facts...

I don’t think there are limits on voluntary workouts

It is a known fact they did...

Besides, the NCAA can't control a voluntary workout with out coaches present.

It's a "known fact" they did it "over the summer" which means it could have included
fall workouts (August ad well)

It's also a "known fact" that it was supervised by Joe Brady under the direction of coach "O" "Known facts"

Sure they did a little on their own but the VAST majority was done under Brady's supervision.

Where are you guys getting this?

Directly from the 10,000 catches article:

quote:

On the other side of the door stands his new passing game coordinator, Joe Brady, armed with a football and sporting a wry grin. It's special teams period at practice, which means Brady is a little bored.

And when Brady gets bored, he gets creative.

He's an innovator, a trait that manifests itself as much when he's designing passing concepts as when he's designing drills. The only thing that sparks his imagination more than boredom is a problem.

You should report any known rules violations to NCAA compliance...

No it wasn't.

Joe Brady was supervising the workout and throwing passes...which is "supervised" workouts...which means you're only allowed
8 hours a week.

Timing is very, very important. You throw most balls where a guy is gonna be, not where he is... in some cases, you throw it before he breaks. You have to be able to trust they will be there. You can do some of that during the Summer, but when you are running routes based on coverage and down and distance, you have to trust the receiver will be where he is supposed to be. That is harder to recreate in skeleton drills.

You can definitely work on getting a feel for a receiver’s movement and one thing a lot of our receivers needed was extending their arms and catching the ball away from their body.

Can we quit bitching over whether or not the workouts were voluntary or involuntary and, instead, focus on the fact that Burrow threw 10,000 caught balls to his receivers? Period.

BTW, they also used headgear that were basically horse blinders to keep them from being able to see/react to anything in their peripheral vision.

We need this stuff.

Thank you Peter, anyone who thinks a summer passing league that runs into the fall camp is not necessary is a moron. If the coaches can supervise, great, if they can't, then the QBs and WRs need to get it done.

Execution is what has gotten LSU here vs where they were last year.

What? But he didn't throw "10,000 passes"
You think any QB could throw 10,000 passes
to 14 different WR's (each) in 2 months or even 3 months?

That's 140,000 passes.Hell,Burrow isn't even mentioned in this LINK

Who said this? I said our WR's absolutely should do this.Read my 1st response.

You just got all the facts surrounding it
100% incorrect.
