I just hate comparing the whole "Dooley had time and look what happened" shite to now. Football 1960-1988 was a totally different animal. And, as was pointed out, Dooley had Herschel to carry him to a title and the guy still only won one national title out of it.
Patience isn't going to reward Georgia. All it will do is continue to deliver us the same helping of meh every year. Either you're comfortable with the status quo of a FL bowl every year or you're not. My opinion hasn't changed of Richt.
Meanwhile I am getting more and more used to this song and dance of seeing people hate him and then see a couple recruits come in or Georgia pound on some mediocre teams (like the fricking should in the first place) and suddenly our lord and savior is only "unlucky" or a "on the right path". Whether you like the man or think he is our best option Mark Richt is what Mark Richt is.
I like the man but I fricking loathe what he represents. Complacency mixed with unprepared. It's an indictment on him as a head coach and the program that surrounds him. But, we'll continue this song and dance like we always do. I'll keep watching Georgia and waiting for the holy frick loss and then prepare my anus for when they play teams that are actually good.

I was UGA class 1971. Richt has been our best coach since I started following Georgia in the early 1960s. However Richt has made incredible dumb calls his whole career. Below are three of the dumbest calls ever made anywhere.
2001 Georgia was at home against Auburn and losing 24-17 with 12 seconds remaining. Geogia had the ball 1st and ten on Auburn's one yard line with no time outs. There is time for three plays if the first two are quick incomplete passes to the end zone. Instead of passing Richt ran a sweep left and time expired when we were stopped short. I've never seen any coach fail to call a pass play in that situation.
2012 SECCG against Bama. The insane failure to spike.
2014 Tech. The squib kick.
I say keep Mark Richt in spite of how insanely stupid the man can be at times. I can deal with the frustration. I love Richt's style of offensive football. I would not trade for a Saban or a Malzahn. At some point Mark Richt is going to succeed in spite of himself. The recruiting classes look great. I can't wait to see What Jacob Eason could do in a Richt offense.

In 1980 Herschel gave Georgia fans a reason to think the team was great. Through 1982 it was. Then the team went back to being very good, but not great. In 2000 Richt started building expectations among fans that the team could be great again. It has almost reached those expectations several times but fell short.
As a fan of Georgia since 1964 I will say that exept for the three Herschel years, this is the best the progam has ever been. Richt will likely never win a national championship, but the team will never have the stink of FSU or UF or Auburn or ND or USCw or Oregon as far as slimy players and a coach that looks the other way when players lie, cheat, or steal.
Would any of you really be willing to accept the reputation those teams and players have just for a trophy? Not me.

Motherfricker you forgot '79. That shite was an embarrassment. Wake fricking Forest. 0-3 start. VD was on the hot seat in '80. Like I've said a thousand times on here VD didn't have to coach during the ESPN and internet era. He should thank his lucky stars that 34 came to Athens.

I get what you are saying and find myself often conflicted on the subject. Would we want the stink and reputation? Obvious answer is of course not. Then I look around this modern society based on narcissism with an overwhelming demand of instant gratification and realize that few people even care about morality anymore. Aside from a small minority of people, society has a short memory about how "success" was attained. The only folks who care about how FSU, Auburn or even UF under Meyer won titles are those who are disgusted by morality issues in all walks of life whether it be politics, business.....or sports. Or those directly impacted and frustrated by the immorality of the "bad" guys. People are to busy posting selfies, chronicling every detail of their lives on social media or searching for instant gratification to pay much attention to the immoral acts of others. Reputations for being shady are short lived in this day and age and the majority of people only recall the championships 3-5 years later.

I see where you're coming from. But I (and the friends I attend games with - all Georgia grads from late 60s) have a sense of morality that transcends the self-gratifying "morality" of the youth of today. And the great majority of the contributing boosters feel the same way. In another 10-15 years that ethic may change, but I hope not to see that change.

Yawn. Richt knows more about coaching at a D 1 college than all of us put together. One coach a year wins the natty. A tipped ball away recently. But why repeat this again in the umpteenth fire Richt thread to all of you who know so much and have soooo many people lined up who are more qualified. yawn

No fun in that. I support my team and coach. Over and over and over

Then prepared to be bored to death, homeboy.

And that's the sad part. HomeBoy. All whinning no solutions. Carry on with your rant moments. I will occasionally call foul when I stumble upon them. In the interim my signature will serve to sum up these threads.

Well then you motherfrickers need to hurry the hell on up to the nursing home. The rest of us want to compete and win Nattys.

I've had a solution since January '06, but my stroke doesn't seem to work. I've currently got my stroke in the shop, getting it supercharged.
Soon...

Well Davy, as soon as your cash contributions exceed the current leaders you'll get your wish. Pull out the checkbook.

The morality you speak of is a store front. We all recruit from the same pool of kids and they're mostly thugs. Landing them on the Georgia roster doesn't change that.

Wrong but many of the better ones are.
Unlike many of our rivals IF we offer a kid we honor
that commitment and for the whole 4 or 5 years they're
at UGA.

Mostly thugs. How assuming and ignorant. The thugs make some noise but there are many more good kids. Many straight A students. Many struggling students with good families and good intentions. Don't let the few smelly apples distract you. It is absolutely true that we can pick through the barrel.
