I have to wonder with the Hazelwood drama, Fields being his friend and mentor on his official visits, etc, and signing day just around the corner if Fields didn't tip his hand to Hazelwood also. Count me SHOCKED is Hazelwood signs.

Couple of other points?

1)Regarding Fields, this was a quote from an article posted on Dawgnation today.

quote:

The source, however, said Fields’ has grown frustrated with his inability to beat out incumbent Jake Fromm.

This speaks volumes if true. Good thing everyone doesn't quit or move when this happens. If they did there would be no sport at all.

2) If Kirby can hold all this together, in my book it will be the greatest accomplishment of his career to date.

Completely fair, though. If he knows he can't beat out Jake, I don't blame him for wanting to go somewhere else. That being said, be a pro about leaving, don't burn the place down on your way put just so you can get a waiver. That's the type of behavior that soils your reputation.

Eason handled last year about as well as anyone could. Kept his head down, helped the team prepare as much as he could, and was still trying to be a great teammate to Fromm in the aftermath of the NCG.

Then he peacefully left for what he felt was a better situation for him.

An athlete's reputation can survive a lot of things if they play well. Fields may not have many friends among the UGA faithful after this, but that obviously wasn't a big consideration when they chose this timing and method of leaving.

I hope that isn't true (the reasoning behind the departure, if that happens). There is usually a big jump from year 1 to year 2 for QBs and it sounds like Fields is being too impatient. If he wanted to transfer, he could still do that by red shirting next season and then going wherever he wants after that, if he still can't beat out Fromm after an expected boost this off season.

I haven't conceded that much yet. The fact he has to sit a year anyway means he might as well redshirt his Soph season here, play scout team vs our #1's on defense to hone his skills vs elite competition, while Plumlee takes the garbage time snaps in games. And Fields can still play in 4 games without burning a redshirt. And if Fromm gets hurt, Fields takes over.

That give Fields two years of separation from Fromm.

Him leaving now doesn't make sense.

People talk about all the 5* qb's that transfer, but they don't do it after their true freshman year. They do it on the back end of their college career as an act of desperation to get playing time. Transferring after one year, after you already got plenty of playing time, more than a typical freshman would have had, that's lame.

Fields was supposed to be smart. Transferring away now and leaking now isn't smart. Consider the possibility that there is more to the story. We should find out in the next few days. What Haselwood decides might be telling.

It's smart if you're pissed off that you're not good enough to win the starting spot. Why not sabotage the team you're leaving? He has nothing to gain by playing the good sport if he can try to convince some of Georgia's recruits to join him at his next destination.

It's not like any team he transfers to cares how Fields is leaving Georgia. They're just ecstatic to get a new QB, along with any recruits he can pull along with him.

I don’t agree with OP. If it weren’t true Fields would say so and kill the drama for the sake of the team. He hasn’t.

Sounds like Kirby needed to up his derecruitment game on Fields when he got on campus.

How about not being a petty douche bag and rather try acting like a decent human being? That's what Fields can do.

DirtyDawg pointed out how Eason handled the situation and he did it with class by keeping quiet and doing what was best for himself without actively trying to screw over anyone else in the process. Based on Fields' previous comments, it seems like he thinks he should have been able to sleep walk into spring camp and beat out Fromm immediately. He seems to have a very high opinion of himself and frankly I don't want a cancer like that on our team, no matter how good he is.

Unfortunately, it's looking like that's exactly what's going on.

I agree with this. It would take a moron to say that the year and damage from transferring is better than sitting out for a year w/ a red shirt at a top tier university w/ top tier facilities w/ top tier medical programs. Not to mention his sister at UGA. Between this and Fromm's recent success it would make sense that he might look to go pro after year three, especially if he's a top 15 pick. I think fields has to decide if Fromm is going Pro after year 3.

My photoshop free trial expired years ago. All I can do is put words on pictures and do half-assed NPC faces by smudging grey circles then adding two periods, an upside down 7, and a hyphen for the eyes, nose and mouth.

I bet FlexDawg can do it though

It’s very possible we already know the truth. “He’s exploring his options, but hasn’t decided yet.” That’s what the family said. I see no need to doubt it, just because everyone on here feels some innate need to prophesy his future. It’s just as possible that after weighing his options, he stays.

The old Marine in me is leaning hard this way. I’m trying my best to give him the benefit of the doubt, but admittedly, it’s becoming very hard to do so.

Since you are a marine let me ask you this question..

If Kirby gave orders that Fields isn't to be touched, and his players always follow orders, then why was it necessary to order his transfer?

That's relatively new material to me, but suffice it to say you can't handle the truth.
