At a time where it's the path of least resistance to take shots at UGA players' character, Nolan Smith stands up and has a great showing in Indy.
"You gonna transfer on your wife? Your kids?!?"

Then you have guys like Ryland Goede where the coach tells him to his face he'll never start here, go somewhere else and free that scholarship up please. What if the coaches took Nolan's advice, instead of giving up on your player, stick it out with him.
Works both ways.

I thought it had more to do with giving him a chance to play elsewhere. And I think Nolan is fine with people transferring, just not doing it at the first sign of adversity.

Have we had true freshmen transfer out? I'm thinking Nolan was meaning folks like the aTm mass exodus of that #1 recruiting class.

pretty bad take. The goal of a football team and the millionare coaches under its employ is to win football games. You offer a 17/18 year old HS kid a scholarship based on his potential to help win football games. After attending workouts and practices and seeing what the kid is made of, if he ulatimely is not oging to help you win games he's not really needed for you. And it's very important to note that his scholarship wasn't yanked and him booted to the curb. Guys like him are told "look, you're probably not going to play. I'ts probably best if you transfer" which actually helps the player becase he'll be able to go somewehre and see the field.
coaches shouldn't be forced to rotate in every player on hte roster at each position like it's 8U basketball out of some sense of loyalty.

Yes, we lost Jaheim Singletary out of the '22 class.
Pretty telling, though, that he has yet to find a landing spot. Apparently he's finding out that what position he wants to play doesn't exactly match up with where teams are willing to play him.

It's like the coaches knew...

Could he still come back? Or has he crossed the Rubicon and missed a time window to return out of the portal?

Correct.
Goede will transfer in May after his UGA diploma.
Per Nolan, Trez already has his UGA diploma.

I said nothing of the sort. I was only pointing out that not all transfers are pussies who can't hack it. Some are encouraged by their coaches to transfer.

Heaviest player to ever run a sub 4.4 and have a 40" vertical. Let's hope he cashes in.

This is his 5th season, so this comparison makes no sense. We DID stick with him.

Theoretically, yes. In reality, that ship has sailed. Considerable time and energy expended in retention efforts, specifically by Boom. Have also heard that the player has expressed buyer's remorse to former teammates.
Basically, the coaches believe the player does not have the mind set to survive and thrive in Athens, so they have moved on to others.

Yeah, coming on board for the back half of consecutive Nattys has to suck... #SoBrave for him to stick around

Monken did this with Bennett. The best player plays. You earn the playing time you get the playing time.
