Yankee snow usually starts and ends with snow.
Southern snow usually starts or ends with rain before changing over, which washes off the brine pretreatment and results in ice slicked roads.
I’vE driven through Yankee snow before and it’s fine, it is plowed off all the streets and treatment is down everywhere.
That’s not how it works down South.
By the way, all the schmucks that got stuck in Snow Jam were yankees who said “I know how to drive in snow”. Southerners took proper Southern precautions.

Up north every other homeowner has a snow plow attachment for their 4WD and every town and city has plenty of snow removal equipment. How does Ringgold clear an 8" snowfall overnight?

Deeprig, dude I have lived in North Georgia my entire life. 32 years. My job makes me drive in the snow for upwards of 12 hours when it comes down.
There is nothing hard about driving in snow. Ice....now that is where it gets a little concerning. Anybody who crashes in the snow, doesn't know how to drive in it. you can't drive the speed limit with it on the road.
BUT....you don't need any fricking chains in the snow.

Normally takes them a while to clear the roads here. If you are familiar with Ringgold I live down 151 so it’s not an area that’s high on the plow’s list. CoolMtn is right.

People out west use snow chains. That's why California highways are so shitty in NorCal. Just sayin'.

you can drive to a store that isn't open and buy what, exactly?
If the store isn't open, everything is technically free. Just might want to disable the video system first.

Hell. Most stores stay open during snow storms here.

Then bring a gun and a ski mask. It's all free that way, too.

How far down 151 from Ringgold are you?
Posted on 1/15/18 at 11:53 pm to NytroBud
Bout 6 miles. I live off of Hooper just north of the Walker Co line. Howdy neighbor.

Howdy. We live off Dedmond and you’re right about 151, seems like the state couldnt give two shits about the upkeep of fhe Highway at any time of the year

They've lost too many workers to Bigfoot attacks so they've pulled out until the locals settle down.

If the temp doesn't drop here in North Ga, it ain't going to do shite here. It has risen to 46 currently. This stuff is supposed to be here in a couple hours. Don't see it freezing here.
As the frozen precip begins to fall, surface temps will drop quickly.

Brad Nitz ? @BradNitzWSB What you’re seeing is a lack of data in northern Alabama because the Huntsville radar is down. The snow is still falling there.

Dedmon. Few years ago a fella texting and driving rear ended me and totaled my ride at your road. I love Ringgold but the traffic on 151 is getting old.

Looks like Athens is going to miss it all again. Aside from bitter cold and high winds tomorrow. Should be quite the miserable day.

The intersection to 151 is terrible. I've seen two wrecks there in the year and a half that we've lived there. State should have made it a four lane down to Naomi if not Chattooga County years ago.
