I don't get it. He short armed a sure TD and had a holding that negated a Swift TD. I understand the guy is 6'5" but if he can't catch, and this isn't the first time he's short armed a throw, ......? Is there no one better behind him, because I just don't get why he get's playing time?

I expected three questions, I see only a statement with a question mark tagged on and one actual question.

The answer to your actual question is , it’s either him or Simmons ... rather have Landers.

I thought the hold was a poor call at best, he let him go and there was never a jersey tug. Thats just what blocking in space looks like. Friggin ref saw Swift get free and turned around and threw the flag backwards.

I agree on the other, that ball was there. He is only hurting himself as there is no next level for him. Part of me believes he spent too much time on scout tram getting hit and is afraid to catch the ball.

Looked like bad technique by Landers. It was an outside run and he jumped to the inside of the guy he was supposed to block.

So when swift went wide, and the defender crossed Landers' face he was forced to yank him.

If he had maintained his outside position the TD stands.

Frankly, Swift makes that guy miss anyway on the open field.

Landers and Simmons should not even be on our roster. They are a result of poor WR recruiting and player development over the years. Losing Ridley and JJ revealed this weakness. Our offensive scheme doesn’t make us attractive to most high profile WR and we don’t have the coaching to develop a 2-3* into a viable option. We need to hit some home runs on the recruiting/ transfer trail this year or we will have problems. Blaylock and even Jackson show promise as does Pickens, but Pickens has off season dismissal/ grade issues written all over him. Got a bad feeling about him.

We got screwed on that bs penalty.

Pass was just out of reach. Fromm needs to be more accurate. Wast the only open td he missed.

He hit Landers in the hand. If you're a WR for the #8 team in the country, you bring that in and land the TD.

You can blame a low throw on the incompletion Fromm threw to Swift, earlier in the game, except on the exact same play, Herrien made the catch and got the first down.

You realize Simmons was a highly recruited player - he very nearly ended up at Bama so it's not like he was some scrub. He is a good special teams player (outside of punt returning) and plays very hard - people shouldn't be knocking him the way they are. Landers on the other hand - he shouldn't be seeing the field in any capacity. The only plays he makes are negative ones generally speaking.

From a recruiting standpoint, very few teams could withstand the amount of attrition we saw in the offseason between early NFL draft departures & Holloman getting booted. This isn't a recruiting issue - it's just bad luck.

Pickens is out stat'ing the 5* decommit that went to OU. It's just hard.

Hats off to Coley for getting Cager and wolf, we would be much worse without those two.

I think Bobo's brand of ball control would be a much better fit for Kirby's defensive strategy, our problem currently at wr is scheme and predictability.

That said, I praise who ever put in the spread toss sweep.

The one item that is perplexing is when you can run the ball like we can, we should have WRs wide arse open.

Ooh idk about this take. Durden said it best on this board when he said Simmons led the team in catastrophes per touch BUT Simmons has actually made at least some plays. I can’t say I’ve seen Landers do anything outside of garbage time and even then it’s been minor.

Landers downsides don’t far outweigh any positives that I think it’s almost irresponsible having him on the field. Can’t block, can’t catch, and if you go only by his body language he ain’t putting in the effort. Simmons can at least do some of that and also do something boneheaded.

Point is when I see 87 I just hope he’s not the only option but when I see 5 I feel like we’re playing against 12.

I concur.

The toss sweep or any play where Swift is attacking the edge is a beautiful thing. Give the dude 3 yards of space and he can make a cut and break some ankles. I hope the toss sweep is a staple going forward.

On the other hand, Swift between the tackles needs to be limited. It just isn't working well IMO.

The between the tackles stuff is like the dive in the option, they have to take resources from the edge to stop it which opens up the outside.

It hit the tips of his fingers on one hand. If he used both hands, it doesn’t even touch his fingers. That kind of miss is more on the qb.

If he left his feet just a little bit and actually stretched out his arms, it was a very catch-able pass. Compare his effort to that of Cager later in the same series who actually made an effort to catch a much more overthrown ball. Landers simply has no ball skills

Agreed. Pickens makes that catch. Cager makes that catch. Likely Blaylock makes that catch.

Sure, If he dives, he might catch it circus style, which means it wasn’t “very catchable”.

Better option is for Fromm to hit him with a more accurate pass, which would have been “very catchable”.

The lack of effort is the real issue here, imo. Landers defines "looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane" at the moment.
