Let's hope they're dumb enough to take him off our hands

Can’t imagine they go that way but he does have recruiting ties. But then you’d have to wonder who they’d get to replace him with Bobo and Morris off the market. They’d just end up promoting from within.

I could actually see him being a good program builder at a place like that. Elite south Florida recruiting ties, name recognition, connected in the coaching community to build a good staff, etc.

If he's a head coach, he doesn't have to call plays. It's a different job.

I don't know who that could possibly be. To my knowledge, no one on staff has ever called plays other than Coley, at least at the college level.

I think Gran might be the favorite.

McGhee maybe or even Luke. Idk, I think Kirby would want to retain those guys and an OC would want his own folks you’d think. That said, maybe Hartley/Hankton getting booted would be enough for someone to bring 2 of their guys in at least.

I don't see any way Kirby would pin his job security on someone who has never called plays. Coley had at least done that before.

I doubt a Major Applewhite, etc. would care that much. People would put up with a lot for that promotion to UGA OC.

It doens't matter who our OC is as long as kirby still wants to paly the saem style of ball. There really wasn't a ton of discernible difference between chaney and coley, and there won't be from coley to the next guy if we keep the status quo.

I just wonder what it's going to take for kirby to wake up and realize it's a new era of football and what we're doing won't cut it.

Kirby recently pinned his job security on a guy that had three years of play calling experience in which he started with a horrendously bad offense and got worse in all statistical categories year over year.

All he cares about is recruiting ability. He would 100% elevate Dell McGee to a play calling role, even if he isn’t ready for it, to keep his recruiting prowess on staff.

In my observation, we ran it way more (and way too much) on 2nd and long this season and also ran way less play action.

Both of which are very, very bad things.

Sure, but you could rationalize it as a learning experience with time for growth in between.

I can't fathom that decision. We could lose McGee tomorrow and have another ace RB coach recruiter on staff by Tuesday.

This. RB coaches are notorious for basically just being really good recruiters and serviceable coaches. It was what Kirby was for Richt back in 2005.

Coley has the 55th rated offense with 4* & 5* talent including an NFL o-line. How do you dress that up on a resume to make yourself marketable?

If that were true, he would have gone all out for Bobo

Recruiting may be the only thing driving that, bc he’s about 7-9 on that list in regards to his coaching resume. He’d be 10 if Derek wasn’t on there...

For now. I don’t understand why Herman doesn’t try to scoop him up. I think he’ll end up at Ole Miss with Kiffin. The issue with Briles is he requires his OL coach to go with him.
