If it were up to me, he could stay on the team, but the restrictions on his behavior going forward would be draconian for his own sake.
Like, 4-6 game suspension, running stairs at 6 AM for the foreseeable future, some sort of new living/roommate situation, regular counseling, and he has to call his parents or his coach from a land line at his apartment every night at like 10:30 to check in. He doesn't get to frick up anymore. Drunk driving is serious shite.

100% on board with all of this.

All that said, it should be crystal clear going forward that he's looking at 4th and long in his personal life and he's out of mulligans.

I'm not opposed to suspending him for the year so he can establish a routine in accordance to what he is taught in counseling and AA. Let him practice and all that but hold him out of competition on Saturdays until he can prove to himself and his team that he can handle this. Otherwise he needs to find an alternative place to play.

No doubt. Time for some significant behavior modification.

the kid needs help, football aside he needs to focus on getting the help, football is secondary to what hes got going on imo.

Ledbetter is saying all the right things today...wants to get help with his "disease" and so on. I'm all for giving him the chance with rehab. Let's hope he's not just talking the talk...
It would be quite a waste if he flushes his career for the love of drink. He's got a lot of potential as a DL.
