It's 99% wishful thinking/speculation/vaporware, to be sure. Saban doesn't own these other coaches, though. I think there's little doubt that CNS won't even be coaching in 5 years, anyway, so there isn't the spectre of career suicide by crossing him.
It's fun as hell to speculate though.

Cochran and Smart are Bf's supposedly.
Christobal you may have a point but no reason to believe or doubt that he wants to leave.

Rusty says Pruitt is a HC candidate at USC now. This is getting wild.
Posted on 12/1/15 at 11:51 am to ATLdawg25
They'd be idiots not to go after him. Not that I want him there, of course, but it'd adequately frick us for taking Kirby.
Still want Herman, but nobody called me about it.

Not sure they are ready for another Maverick at USC
Posted on 12/1/15 at 11:53 am to ATLdawg25
I was worried about this. I think he'd be a great hire and would frick us right in the process.

Tony Morell says USCe has offered Kirby the job.
Posted on 12/1/15 at 11:56 am to LewDawg
It's funny how USCe decides to jump the offer after we opened up the job.
Desperate frickers.

I really don't think they have a shot at Smart if we are offering. I'm sure they know as much at USC.
Rusty threw out Smart, Pruitt, and Muschamp as candidates. Regardless of what happens, somebody is getting fricked.

Fricked indeed. Whole business is incestuous.

Alright guys, I have struggled with the firing somewhat. Timing seemed awkward. I wouldn't have batted an eye if it happened after 2010 or opening up 0-2 in 2011. However, if he won his bowl, CMR was about to string together 4 10 win seasons out of 5. 2 of those occurred when the team's heisman candidate played less than half the season. But, it's done and we're past that.
Moving on, and I may be the only person that feels this way, but Dan Mullen would be my #1. He has the HC experience in SEC that you want. OC for two national title teams. He has won 60% of his games at Miss St. Prior to his arrival, they had won less than 50% in their history. After this bowl season, he will have coached Miss St in almost 1/3 of the bowls the school has ever played in. Miss St is the worst SEC job outside of Vanderbilt. I don't think the work he's done there could be understated. All of this occurred during a time in which the West was as strong as it's ever been.
With that said, Smart seems to be our guy. If that's the case, I think most of us would all like to see Smart/Pruitt/Helton. I think Helton would make the move unquestionably. He's also what I would want - a guy w/ OC experience that coaches QBs. But let's say the admin (or whoever) wins and Pruitt doesn't come. And Muschamp takes the USCe job.
Who fills out Smart's staff on the defensive side of the ball in that scenario? And who fills out the other offensive positions?
Another scenario would be Smart somehow falling through. Who is your fallback? Mine would obviously be Mullen.

This is the whole reason I want to back a Brinks truck up to Herman's house. The good ol' boy network is a bunch of horse shite.

Mullen is doomsday scenario.
