Since Pickens won’t play for the first of the season, I believe he and James Cook are gonna eat with the release routes. Whites the better pure tailback, but he couldn’t catch syphilis at bike week in Daytona (not that I have first hand knowledge)

Under, white and Cook will be the featured backs. Kenny McIntosh has experience and will see action too. The only way I see Milton getting close to 1000 all purpose yards is if the Dawgs put games out of reach by mid 3rd quarter.

There was signs of brilliance from Milton last season. Plus, Kirby is gushing about him this spring. You might have something, but will he get enough touches?

Kid has the talent to be great, but our approach to the runningback position will make it hard for him to get enough carries + catches to break 1,000 yards.

The guy is 6-2 220... runs a 4.55 can break tackles and is elusive. I think we’ll see Cook playing the slot, in constant motion, and wheel routes out of backfield. All of this designed to get him one on one with a middle linebacker. I believe from wha Kirby said about the backs having to learn better pass pro, we use Milton and he’s shown he is an effective target in the flats. The guy can break tackles, has excellent vision, and can run away from linebackers.

Over. We'll have fewer mouths to feed than we think we do.

Was gonna ask the same.

Perhaps Tony Milton?

I am hoping like heck that the “way we’ve handle backs in the past” is over and CTM will use this awesome thoroughbred to his potential.

really? why? it has worked out pretty well for us and the top RB recruits don't seem to mind keeping the wear and tear down in college.

I believe he will become 1b to Zues’ 1a. He will rush for 1000+ yds and 300-500 yds in receiving. Cook will be the one with the most all purpose yards with the majority being receiving. I believe we see significant contributions from all of the top 4 RBs.

I see It stacking up as:

1a. Zues
1b. Milton
3. Cook
4. Kenny McIntosh
5. Edwards

I think we’ve lined up against 8 man boxes and played murder ball long enough. It’s time we throw more on 1st down to keep the opposing safeties honest and allow our RB’s to gash defenses that try to fall back in a more traditional defense rather than run straight into the teeth of loaded boxes.

i dont think anyone is arguing that...but thats a whole other conversation about offensive scheme.

regardless of scheme i dont see why it is an issue to have multiple talented backs that split carries, which is what your original post looked to be talking about.

I apologize if I was ambiguous. I meant we need to change the way we utilize our stable of RB’s. As in not wasting touches on burning plays by running the ball in the A or B gaps to “wear down” opposing defenses. I love the idea we have the luxury of such a deep backfield and I hope that never changes. If we don’t change the way we use our RB touches, we will be rendered obsolete. I am pretty confident CTM has us on the right track to catch back up with Bama, Florida, and Ohio State. We need to use this deep backfield to avoid predictability and give them real lanes to gash defenses. Think Oklahoma in 2017 when Rodney Anderson and Sermon averaged almost 10 yds a carry in the Rose Bowl or Travis Ettiene leading the nation in yards per carry last year.
