Cook is 5'11" 190lbs with 40 yard dash time of 4.71 per his ESPN profile.
He's a small RB and doesn't have elite speed.
Cook is shifty in space and I like him out in the flats to pick up 3 or 4 first down yardage.
But objectively, we should not be recruiting players like Cook towards building a NC level team.

I’ll let the downvotes rain on me, but all the way back to recruiting during his cycle, I said no thanks. Too small, not as shifty as folks here want to make him out to be, and just can’t break a tackle from a toddler. Luckily, techs D is weaker and slower than the average toddler and he was able to break A tackle yesterday.

I agree. Cook gets snaps White should be getting. Frankly McIntosh looked quicker to the hole than Cook did vs GT.

40 times are the most overrated stat in all of sports. Cook can fly in the open field.

Whose touches are you going to take away to get Cook more touches? I’ll hang up and listen...

Line him up in the slot, have two backs in the backfield, shift him out wide. Everyone keeps saying our wideouts outside of Pickens and Cager can't create separation... then drop in someone who can.

With all of these weapons we supposedly have, it's horrifying that our offense shows zero creativity.

10.8 was faster than me.
But I dont call that flying.

Lining him in the slot isnt going to blow by any nickel dbs. And he isnt the type of power back to force extra linebackers if he motions besides Fromm. He isnt bulldozing over DBs as it is.

Blowing by defenders isn't the key in the slot. An excellent route runner with good hands will be very effective moving the chains. Also he is plenty quick enough to get open out of the backfield v linebackers.

We need to sustain drives not just look for big plays.

Why would a defense put a linebacker on him?
There is no reason for a linebacker to be in the nickel spot over Cook.
You missed the point.

If you motion Cook to the backfield, a DB is plenty big enough to take him down. Cook isnt bowling over DBs.

I'd love a DT to have to cover Cook. But what I want and what a defense does are 2 different things.

And as for "blowing by linebackers"... Cook couldn't blow by our linebackers. You underestimate SEC speed.

If we get first downs, everyone gets the ball more.

I trust Swift more than I trust Cook.

He's allowed to line up in the backfield and go out for a pass. In 11 personnel against most defenses the RB is responsibility of a linebacker.

Good example for you.

First... we are talking about Cook. Not Herrien.

Second... we are talking about lining up in the slot (either a 2 back set or empty backfield). The point is "more ways to get Cook on the field".

If I'm throwing to a back... I'm picking Herrien all day ahead of cook.

You picked a horrible example

Is that not 11 personnel and a LB on a RB running a route from the backfield?

If you read my post you'd clearly see that I'm talking about exactly what you see in the example. You asked the ignorant question about why a D would put the LB on Swift. Versus the right D you could scheme Julio Jones into a matchup with a linebacker.

Don't argue for no reason, dude - especially when you don't know what you're talking about.

Also, Cook runs better routes than Herrien. Making a a few great catched is no small thing, but alone it doesn't make him a better receiver.

You interject a completely different example into the conversation. You arent that important.

This is your reply to me. Why the hell you change the subject to catching passes out of the backfield in the same post is beyond me.

Where did I mention putting a linebacker on Swift? You have ADD with all of these moot arguments with yourself.

bullshite. There is a reason why we throw to Herrien against Florida, Auburn, and Notre Dame and Cook gets reps against Murray St. Tennessee, Kentucky, and GT. Herrien is better.

I want to see more McIntosh. Not sure what the deal is but he looks good every time he touches the ball. Maybe they are trying to redshirt him.

Kenny McIntosh has played in 3 games. May be looking at a RS. He has looked good, 19 carries 148 yards and 2 TDs. A big back at 6'1 210. Excited to see him next year after he gains a few pounds of muscle.

No he wasn’t. He was at least 20 pounds heavier and 3 inches taller.

Dalvin Cook is listed on his current NFL roster as 5-10, 209 lbs. He was probably at least 5-10 lbs lighter in college.

Nonetheless, James Cook is not 5-7, 180-185 lbs...

Smart also commented earlier this season how Cook had gotten bigger and stronger since last season. He's listed as 5-11, 190 and even if that's exaggerated, he is certainly not too small for the all purpose back. He's not the every down SEC tailback but Smart keeps saying they need to get him more involved.

True. But if he gets covered by an LB he should be able to get open across the middle.
