That also means man coverage on receivers, and a QB rollout gets away from those hands.

Would he have been a generational talent for UGA?

Fields might not be generational in all of CFB but he was more than generational as a potential UGA QB. We haven't had a QB as good as Fields in my lifetime. Kirby pissed it away for an ungrateful Fromm.

Agree completely.
When Kirby made the decision to stick with Fromm rather than take a chance on developing Fields as our future, Kirby should have had gotten a commitment from Fromm to stay through his senior year. Yea, none of us including Kirby had a crystal ball at the time but he knew darn well that Fields might bolt and if Fromm also dumped us that we would be screwed. And we are......

Eh, what about Fran Tarkenton?

We were 7 pts away from a playoff birth in '18 with the 3rd ranked QB in the country (QBR) and you wanna use the season as a chance to "develop" Fields?

How exactly are you gonna do this? Are you gonna bench em if he changes his mind?

We're in this situation because Newman listened to a street agent telling him to opt out.

I agree but we are also in this situation because Fromm apparently did not have a realistic perspective relative to his prospects in the NFL. But yea, hiney sight as I call is always 20/20 so in the end it was just a losing series of circumstances for our team.

I don't think that Tarkenton is as good as Fields but it was great fun watching Fran running around like a headless chicken.

Right about the time Fromm declared and Mays transferred, Kirby said, "we have a lot of players who think they are better than they really are."

I thought it was directed at those two.

Yep, Nick Saban made a similar comment about some of his players who declared and he was also correct.

All of above said, one thing is certain: Fields and Fromm were both a lot better than Bennett.

I just hope that Daniels is ready enough to actually be able to go in, should Bennett go down. Daniels has at least played at the college level and has the physical tools. He's apparently pretty smart, too. Beck is raw and Mathis is a headcase (pardon the pun).

I just hope there's a real competition for 2021 because if Smart sticks with Bennett purely out of "experience," he's going to be putting a ceiling on next season, too.

For the circumstances existing this year I’ll take Smart’s word that currently Bennett is the best healthy, available option. Next year JTD should be healthy and Vandagriff and Beck/Mathis if he stays should be in the mix. I think Beck or Mathis will transfer but not both.

Agree, may accept next year as a rebuild and see if we can get BVG substantial playing time at some point given where Daniels is at this point.

Fields has already proven he can not win the games that matter. Beating your rivals during the season is pointless if you can’t win Championships. In the only game that really mattered for Fields last year, he threw 2 INTs and only one TD. His team lost. Maybe, Ohio State fans are ok with mediocrity and think beating their rivals like Michigan and Penn State means something... but, we have learned from the braintrust here, that Championships are the only thing that matters. It is clear that Fields can’t take them there, so I’m surprised Ohio State hasn’t made the obvious choice of starting the second string QB to see if he can. Though, since they ran off a QB who won the Hiesman and a Natty, it is pretty clear they can’t manage their QB roster. I know, your gonna say bla bla he threw all those TDs, but those were against weak teams. When he played a Champion level team, he failed. It’s all about championships you mediocritists!!! Derp
