I don't understand why some Fromm lovers think Fields is going to sit on his arse behind a far less talented QB. Fields already knows there has been no real QB competition. Hell, Smart has already wasted Fields' redshirt, and for what?

Before he signed with Georgia he said if necessary he would be willing to take a redshirt. Also, some believe that Kirby might be talking to him and explaining the lack of playing time....or we trust that Fields just isn't ready.

I see your concerns and questions...now answer this. Why are you so certain that Fields would come into the game and light the world on fire? Why do you believe that Kirby would rather lose games than play the best option at QB?

It doesn't take a psychic to see the obvious. I'm happy we won. Jake played great. I hate seeing us lose a transcendent talent because it's obvious at this point.

What is obvious at this point? That Fields is a transcendent talent or that he is leaving? Maybe I am missing the obvious, because while I acknowledge it is possible, I don't see that either is obvious.

Kirby can also spare me the shite about Justin is a really good player and we need to get him involved. It's nothing more than lip service at this point. He had a chance to get him involved when we got stuffed on 7 straight attempts at the 1 yard line.
It might be lip service. So, with all the opportunities that has been available, why do you choose to believe that the coach would rather lose games than to play a "transcendent" talent?
Do you honestly believe that Kirby sees Fields out there on the practice field every day and says, "It seem obvious Fields is ready to go, but I would rather lose a game than play him!"?

If Fields had started yesterday, we’d have 2 losses.

I guess I don't understand why some posters here like HTDawg, NCDawg52, and Hobnail think that Fields is some sort of pussy that's going to take his ball and walk.

I watched his body language a bit last night and, while I’m not on the HT train, I’d be willing to bet he’s gone. I believe it must have been conveyed to Smart by him or his family and that’s why we never saw him yesterday. He sat with his helmet on, mostly alone. No headset, not celebrating after big plays.....at one point, Fromm was standing about 15 feet in front of him on the sideline and they never once interacted. Maybe there was something different shown on TV, but I think Fields is gone.

If a second string backup QB has quit on the team after half the year (possibly) or a little over half the year then...we’ll I refuse to believe that about him. He is an important part of the team and should prepare each day as such and I trust that he does.

What if...and it's almost heresy to ask...that Fields isn't as much of a generational talent as the recruiting experts claimed? It sure wouldn't be the first time that a "can't miss" prospect hit the next level and didn't pan out. Especially for quarterbacks.

Or...what if at this point in time, Fields simply can't close the gap with Fromm in the mental aspect of the game?

Fromm already beat out one "best quarterback in the country" in Eason.

Why is it assumed that Fields is better than Fromm? If he was better, what logical reason would there be for him to not take Fromm's job?

Pretty much my thinking. Fields has looked good in limited playing time but it's obvious that he doesn't have command of the offense at Fromm's level. Fields will either acknowledge this and strive to improve and overtake Fromm as the starter next season or he will decide that he might have a better opportunity elsewhere. In retrospect Fields probably should have gone to a team like Auburn that runs a read/option as a standard aspect of their offense.
But I will say this: Fields got his bell rung early in the season when he ran the ball and his reaction thereafter was of a player who just had a wakeup call aka this isn't high school football. As such, I think Fields would be wise to stick it out and learn to play in a pro-style offense which he will likely be part of in the NFL.

If he's not that good you don't pull his redshirt. I'm a Fromm fan and supporter, but the coaching staff clearly has no intention on giving Fields sufficient playing time despite pulling his redshirt. I feel sorry for the guy.

You pull the redshirt because you're 1 hit away from him being the guy. He'll play again this season I expect him to play a good bit the last 3 games because we will blow out Auburn, UMass and Tech.

Which might mean something if Smart had gotten him ready by playing him more. He didn't. As for him playing more against Auburn, Umass, and Tech, we're heard that same bullshite about Florida. He didn't play a single snap.

Fromm will be lucky if he's drafted before the 5th round after four years, unless the QB class that year is godawful. Fromm is not an NFL QB, or even close to it.

Question. based on what you have seen where would Fields be drafted.

I am genuinely curious, because you seem to be basing everything on recruiting rankings and nothing on what you have seen. I mean, has Fields shown you that he is higher than a 5th round draft pick at this point?

Give it a rest. It appears as if everybody is tired of this. Let the coach coach.

we're heard that same bull shite about Florida.

The only bull shite we've heard about the Florida game was that Fromm should sit and Fields should start. I have been disappointed in the average play from Fromm, but there has been average play by several players on both sides of the ball this season. Injuries have been part of the problem, but simply not playing well is the big problem.
THIS is the team we thought we would have last year.
