Is it just me or did they seem to play more situational gday games in the past where this one was for the most part a regular scrimmage? Made for better watching.

Kirby Smart said in the 3rd quarter they were running the plays they ran last year but were not showing anything new. He also said each team had one trick play they could run but the Landers to Mathis pass was drawn up in the locker room just before the game.

Bennett. And I wouldn't be surprised (and would actually be happy) if Mathis redshirts.

I'm not sure why anyone would think otherwise. I think that was the plan from the beginning, for him to sit behind Fromm and have a full year to learn the offense, add muscle and get stronger.

In normal situations I wouldn’t respond to this because it’s an obvious troll, but I think you actually might believe this.

Missed the whole thing due to the fact that I have a full time construction job and also work full time in the family farm.

Heard on the radio that cook has put on some size. Any truth to this? This has been one of my hot takes for the uosoming season since I saw his scrawny arse last season.

Should be able to catch it on YouTube.

He’s probably up about 10 pounds or so. Grew the hair out too. Looks just like Dalvin.

From a pure "grasp of the offense" standpoint, it's probably not as inaccurate as you might think. I don't think that would change the coaches minds enough to put him down to third string, but it still didn't look like Fields has fixed that "panic switch"... if he still has the same pull it down and scramble mentality in a spring game with no live tackling on the QB, I'm not sure he'll get it done before the season... The kid is an incredible athlete, and I certainly wish things had played out a little different, but at this point there is a pretty wide gap between recruiting hype and actual performance for him.

I'm not going so far as to say that Mathis would have surpassed him, but Stetson's understanding of our offense is pretty strong. If he had even a little more size, I don't think that statement would have been as outlandish as you might believe.

Mathis definitely has more pocket composure than Fields. The OSU spring game was awful so how bad will Fields be, or improve, midseason after he’s been cracked a few times? It’s gonna be interesting to see.

*note* My comment was specifically with regards to the Fields would be 3rd string behind Bennett... Was not making any assessments on Mathis. I liked what I saw, but he's raw. There's a reason he'll redshirt and we brought Bennett back in... But he's certainly got potential to develop into a real threat at the position given his size/athleticism.

- Bennett showed out and was impressive with his throws.
- Landers needs to learn how to hold on to the football.
- O line is impressive and will manhandle any DL they face.
- Herrien will be Holyfield 2.0 this year.
- Our DB's look more aggressive.
- We actually threw to the TEs today more than all last season it seems.
- The freshmen on defense that played were impressive and look forward to them playing 1st string in the fall.

With that all said, I don't see us losing to anybody in the SEC East.

The offensive playcalling looked a lot like the nfl. Mostly 3-6 yard routes. Several deep throws (not a lot of the intermediate).

Except for the double-move by holloman, we weren't very successful on the downfield throws.

The good news is that summer is when those downfield throws become rhythmic.

It is going to be interesting to see the offense evolve.

Agree, especially because he can get reps in 4 games. Such a wonderful rule that we pissed away last year on Fields. I don't think he transfers if he knew he had a second year of separation from Fromm. He had been on-the-record before and after getting on campus that he wouldn't mind a redshirt, and in one quote at one point, said he actually expected it.

The only excuse Kirby has for the frickup is Stetson leaving, so we only had only two QB's on the roster, so he wanted Fields having more than 4 games of reps.
