We got punished for losing by a fg to bama in 2023.
That Georgia team was way better than the Michigan team that won.
Our loss to bama this year doesn’t count
Bamas losses to fsu and Oklahoma don’t count
Notre dame losing to A&M and Miami doesn’t count.
Ole Miss losing to us doesn’t count.
If A&M loses to Texas and misses the seccg and we lose to bama in it… who gets the nod?
The only thing to do is just win.

Ring the bell, pussies
“If you dont want to play and win every game, and be physical, go in the portal and transfer somewhere where they aren’t physical. And then we’ll schedule that team because we’d love to play your soft arse”
-paraphrasing but that’s about what Kirby said yesterday

Hoping for Bama in ATL somehow, but beating both texas teams back to back in champ game would be hilarious

By punished I mean knocked out of the CFP if you would’ve otherwise been in.

Plus the word has always been you won’t get punished for a CG loss.
Every single team that lost their conference championship game dropped in the rankings, which affected the pairings in the playoffs. Some lost a bye week in the first game of the playoffs.
It opens a team to a chance of injuries, and gives injured players one less week to recover from injuries.
Going into championship weekend last year the top 4 rankings were:
1. Oregon
2. Texas
3.Penn State
4. ND
After championship weekend, in which Penn State and Texas lost the rankings were:
1. Oregon
2. Georgia
3. Texas
4. Penn State
Because of the way the playoffs were set up both Texas and Penn State lost their byes...and even then their matchups in the first round were different.
Why people (Not necessarily you, Squatch, but tons on the Rant) keep insisting a loss in the CCG would not hurt teams flies in the face of logic.
If Texas A&M plays Alabama in the SECCG and Alabama beats them, no amount of logic says that they would retain their #3 ranking. They would probably AT LEAST drop to #4 below Georgia...or could even drop to #5 with Texas Tech jumping both Georgia and Texas A&M if they win the BIG 12.
Yes, if we do not play in the SECCG it is possible Texas Tech could win their CCG and jump us. ND got jumped last year because they were not in a conference Championship Game.

I did say where you said you were not sure if you agreed with that reasoning 100%. I'm just addressing those that have been supporting that line of thinking, and don't fully understand the methodology.

Just saw this after I posted my lengthy explanation.
That said, I still would not believe that BYU (Ranked #11 would not drop at LEAST to #12 if they lose their CCG, and since the G5 team would get the #12 spot it would knock them out of the playoffs.
I would also argue that Alabama, if they got beat by Texas A&M would possibly drop out of the playoffs depending how badly they got beat.

I agree with a lot of what you say on this board....but you don't go out and play the games. Injury is always on the table and the wear and tear on a players body is astronomical, especially at this stage of the season.
I want us to compete in and destroy every team we play, but I don't want to risk injury in what has turned out to be a meaningless game. It just doesn't make sense.
The last game I ever played in I hurt both my knee and elbow, and my body was totally exhausted, from the grind. People need to understand that the players are not playing 12.13 or 14 games. They lift weights, run, study film 12 months out of the year for 8-10 years in a row, from high school through college. It wears on a person physically and mentally. It's easy to be mentally tough on a message board 12 weeks a year...quite a different story when you do it day in and day out for 10 years in a row.

We lost by a FG to Bama in 2023 and it kept us out of the 4 team CFP field entirely. The ONLY reason Michigan won that year's title is because they held the playoff without Georgia.

I mean that could EASILY happen though. If you are a 2 loss team playing in your CCG, maybe ranked around 8-10ish, and lose your CCG, why in the world would you not be punished? At that point you have THREE losses and zero championship or hardware to your resume...what right do you have to compete to be called best in america/national champions? With your 3rd loss you've thrown that right out the window.
All games matter and all games contribute to your overall resume. The committee can say whatever they want until they're blue in the face, but the facts would say otherwise.

Not to put it out there but if lose to tech
Ga. Tech is 105th in total defense with 409 ypg.
Georgia is 33rd in total offense with 428 ypg.
I doubt we lose that game.

If we lose any key piece due to injury that's a far worse punishment than any seeding order. It just baffles me some have forgot we lost our starting QB in last years SECCG and there's nothing saying it couldn't happen again.
Should we sit all starters vs Charlotte and then GT….we in the playoffs regardless if we lose to Tech or not. We could beat Charlotte with backups and walkons

False equivalence: We have to play Charlotte and GT. The topic is give the reasoning for wishing to play in the SECCG. But to address your question, yes the starters should be pulled as soon as both games are in hand.

You are assuming we'll get a first round bye, and that's not a guarantee right now.
So in theory Gunner Stocton could get some crazy two year injury, whatever the hell a two year injury is, in our first round CFP game.
So why not play in the SECCG so we can do this again?

Skip the SECG, who cares...I want the best chance at a Natty and that is less ability to get injured and more time to heal.
This time around Kirby will have the team ready after a bye round.
