Yep, the Tech OC exploited a weakness that we all had seen before with outside containment. Our defense could not stop that stretch run scheme that reminded me of that triple option offense that Tech ran under Paul Johnson back in the day. They are blocking well at the point of attack and we could not stop them.
But the offense was also a problem without Bowers and McConkey. We didn't score any points in the 4th quarter after running and passing all over them in the 1st half.
I saw several obvious issues:
1. Beck is throwing the ball way too hard on short passes which leads to incomplete and deflected passes that are potential INTs.
2. The play calling was not smart given our obvious advantage in personnel. For instance, there was zero reason for Beck to force that short pass between 2 defenders near the goal line that led to the deflected interception. A wide run or quick outlet to Bell would have been an easy TD.
3. On long routes, Our defensive backs need to look back for the ball in the air when the receiver looks up for the ball. We would have many more interceptions if they did so.

Beck is just fine. He throws with confidence and is usually very accurate. Maybe a little low or fast at times but he’s getting the ball out quickly and the receivers need to handle them.

I don't know where to start with this one, but it’s best just to say that men are talking tackle football here and its best you run along and get your chores done.

He is trying to give the receivers an opportunity to make a move.
When it works, I don't see the complaints.
We have a ton of YAC this year. And getting the ball out quick and to the target in a hurry is an important piece of the game.

He's forced the ball in tight windows all year.
To complain this time would be to complain about a ton of his nfl throws.
He is supremely confident. And that puts the ball in harms way. Receivers need to fight back to the ball too. Shield defenders

As far as the interception in the end zone goes, I didn’t understand why you throw there.. Maybe Beck changed the play? You’ve been running the ball so well, run it again!
The defense was/is my concern last night! The Dline got pushed around, and their RB’s ran with purpose, they would not go down with one UGA defender on them, they consistently fell forward!
When the game was all but over.. the broadcast panned to Kirby and I read his lips, “ why can’t we fu$@in tackle nobody?!?”
That will definitely be a topic this week, he’ll be in the defenses arse!

Tech used motion and the QB reading to a dive to get our LBs out of position. Their QB did a good job on reads and hit the hole hard. on some of his bigger runs, you could see the LB being moved horizontally by the motion and flow, putting him out of position to fill. Gotta give them credit for scheme and execution. Still, turnover and a BS penalty made it easier on them. The DLine missed some plays, but Tech’s bigger plays on the QB dive should have been met by the LB in the hole…yet, as stated, the motion got them out of position. That can be corrected with film.

Yeah, he said that they evaluate each particular crew they are assigned before every single game. So they already knew ahead of time that it would be a more penalized game.
I’m sure his is probably not the only coaching staff that does this, but I love that level of detail. That Kirby has a file on every single ref out there.

It didn't help that the Tech DB tackled MRJ before the ball got there. Definitely one of those plays in hindsight where we should've just handed it to Milton, worst case scenario being he's stopped short of the goal line and we settle for 3 to put the game away.

This is my concern, too. I really don't know if last night was just a down night after a holiday, with GT's formidable offense perhaps catching the D a bit flat-footed, or if GT actually identified a weakness which Saban will exploit.
I do think King's athleticism and skill surprised them...he's a great QB on a mediocre team, but that's no excuse not to close the running gaps and make sound tackles.

Rules has been posting with me since 2000 or so on the earliest iteration of the DawgRant.
He may be a boomer, but he's solid, and definitely not out of touch. I'd take an internet bullet for the homeboy.

He kept the ball a decent bit. He runs upright but hit the hole impressively fast. I don’t think he ran that many times in the games I watched, but maybe he did. The gaps were created in large part to the motion and misdirection which got the LBs on skates a lot. That can be corrected with film.
The Bama QB is bigger and has better top end speed, but not sure he has the acceleration the Tech QB has. Gotta give credit to his fakes, reads, and speed to the hole.
