of Kirby Smart's recruiting classes to come. which program(s) will suffer the most recruiting defeats at the hands of Coach Smart et al?.

Not competitive for many kids Georgia recruits

If Smart does well, Auburn, Clemson, UT, and maybe Alabama will be most affected.

Good question, I'd imagine it'll vary a lot at different times.

I think GM is gone at Auburn after 2016, and Saban will probably not be coaching Bama any later than 2018. Will those programs get a great replacement or go through several flops before finding the guy?

South Carolina will certainly be hurt some if our recruiting picks up, but keep in mind that even when they were winning big a few years ago, they weren't reeling in many top ten classes.

FSU and Ole Miss are harder to project for me. I'll let folks that know more about recruiting speculate there.

Yep, this is what must happen for Georgia to become national championship contenders. Saban is a great coach due to his system, defenses and recruiting; not so much due to his historically conservative offenses. If Smart could recruit outstanding athletic QB's and take our offense up to Clemson's level and build Alabama level defenses and recruiting, we would have a winning combination. I know it sounds like fantasy but given the talent out of our state that has gone to other championship level teams, I see it as quite feasible. We just need to build a UGA brand that will attract championship level players who see an opportunity to win a championship in their own state.

Auburn
Florida
Alabama
(Don't get me wrong. Alabama will still get great players, but we will probably pull one or two big recruits from them the first couple of years.)

Wouldn't surprise me to see Saban jump this off season or next to the NFL. he has proven he can conquer to college game, and his ego still eats at his failure on the pro level. I think he tries to go back and do something on that level.

He told you this?

He conquered the college game a long time ago. If he wanted to be back in the pros, he would have been back years ago. Time to give up on this one. He's retiring at Alabama

Maybe.

Seriously....every head coach has an ego. That is not a knock on him. (I am stating only my opinion from here on) I think he stayed in the college game because he wanted to put the Meyer talk to rest. He did that this year.

Again...only my opinion. Doesn't mean it is true. Do you honestly believe that it does NOT bother him that he fell flat at the pro level? And...you might be exactly right. He COULD remain at Alabama and retire from there.

What do you mean no5 at his age. Mike Smith coached the falcons and he is older than Saban. I don't think he is leaving Alabama.

Agreed, read an article a few weeks ago that showed how he has put down much deeper roots in AL more so than anywhere else he's been. He's moved family closer to him in B'ham and really seems to have settled on Tuscaloosa for the long haul. He is so close to Bear Bryant's record he may want that one now more than succeeding in the pros.

No doubt UT, followed by Clemson. UT's demise had more to do with CMR shutting down their ga pipeline than poor coaching.

Clemson is a QB away from being 9-3. Nothing new here other than that...

This is stupid. You could say that most about schools. We saw what happened without a QB or a Chubb

Auburn was 1 Cam away from being irreverent in 2010

A lot of people began saying Meyer was the best coach in college football. It got louder when OSU beat Alabama last year in the playoffs. I don't, personally, believe there is a better coach than Saban at the college level, but a case could certainly be made for Meyer.

Maybe. maybe not. Tom Coughlin is 69. It's not really THAT unusual for a coach to coach into their 70s.

All very good points. But very few Pro coaches live in the city the work in, so he could settle in Tuscaloosa and still go pro.

I guess it all depends on how badly he wants to prove he can succeed at the higher level. Both college and pros have their unique challenges. And, if he is that close to Bryants record, then that might very well be a huge draw to keep him at Alabama.

Hey....all I said is it wouldn't surprise me if he went to the pros. I wasn't making a prediction he would go.

I agree. Without Watson, Clemson is a very different team. Don't misunderstand me.....they have some very good athletes and Dabo, like him or not, is a very good coach. He gave Alabama all the wanted.
