Yeah...our offense should be pretty good this season...though we often manage to start off slow.

I'm looking at the secondary with no Harvey-Clemons and a couple of other injuries to folks who would have played (such as Wiggins) and I'm seeing us potentially getting fried by Clemson's offense. We're counting on folks like Tray Mathews who have never stepped on the field in a college game. Seems like a lot will ride on how the newly constituted defensive line -- smaller but hopefully more athletic -- can do at disrupting things. But I'm concerned about the secondary going into this opener.

Then there's the likely absence of our kicker. This tranlates to missed extra points and field goals...more pressure on the both the offense and defense.

Combine above with Death Valley effect on younger players....I smell a loss. But maybe I'm just being negative.

You're not being negative. You're being a realist.

Hopefully lack of kicker forces more aggressive playcalling. With the talent on our offense, that would be a very good thing

The secondary is a liability that we just have to accept. They are going to throw on us. However, their offensive line finished 88th in sacks allowed last year. Now I know that they return four starters, but they lost their best linemen in Freeman and are replacing him with a 270lb freshman. I like the way our d-line matches up against them and add JJ to the mix and I think we can generate a steady and consistent pass rush, which is key.

I don't know if I'd call it negative, perhaps irrational.

Clemson played 3 SEC teams last year and scored 26, 25, and 17 points. Those SEC teams had defenses that ran the gamut from really good for LSU to really terrible for Auburn. The SEC teams they beat, LSU and Auburn, didn't lose to them because they couldn't stop Clemson from running up the score. They lost to them because they had inconsistent offenses that came up short by one score each game.

Meanwhile, in ACC play, the fewest points Clemson scored was 37. Think about that - even the worst SEC team last year, Auburn, held them to 11 fewer points than any ACC school could.

So stop worrying about them. They're a decent team. They have some good individual talent. But we only lose to them if our offense doesn't show up or our defense is so horrendously bad that it's not going to matter - i.e. we're going to lose 7 games because we're terrible on that side so Clemson is only one of many.

They'll move the ball. They might hit a long pass or two. But Gurley and Marshall won't have any problem finding running room and there's nothing, talent-wise or schematically, that they can throw at Murray that he hasn't seen before.

the offenses that really gave us problems last yr were run based(nebraska, bama,sc). Clemson is a pass first team, which means we can be aggresive and get upfield with our speed linebackers. even if clemson scores 40 what makes u think they can stop us from getting 50, fsu dropped 49 on them last yr and our offense is better than theirs

I'm actually excited about seeing us go for it on 3rd a bunch, especially with a badass qb and gurshall. It's not like Morgan did that much positive last year, aggressive 3rd down plays could be awesome.

One of the things many are panicking about is thinking the defense will actually be worse than last year....and the defense wasn't horrible, just played below expectations. And that is the key. We will have a young defense, sure, but one that had a lot of young players get some experience. Granthem, I think it could be said would like to go back to the NFL. This defense is a ripe opportunity for him. If he can take this defense and devise some schemes that make them successful, then he will be able to write his own ticket. I think you will see Granthem work his rear end off, and do a great job of motivating the players on the defensive side of the ball. I actually feel like the defense this year has a chance to play way above expectations.

I am more concerned that the offensive players will read all their press clippings (Similar to the defense last year) and believe them. I am not overly concerned, because we have quality character guys at the skill positions....Murray wants to improve his NFL stock, and the offensive line coach is getting depth to help out.

one thing our offense has over last years defense is we won't have any guys suspended (hopefully), i think that really hurt the defense last year with key guys missing the first 4-5 games,, as u saw the defense never really jelled, the individual sum of the parts was greater than the whole.

No way do we lose to Clemson! In fact, I don't believe this game will even be that close, like a 25-30 pt differential with us winning going away. This game is all business for our guys, and the spotlight of the nation will be on this game. The Dawgs will prove they not only belong, but will dominate some teams this year. Look for the defense to surpass all expectations and for the offense to roll like thunder, just like we expect. Clemson will get a few points, but not more than 24, while UGA could put up as many as 60-70 in this contest. Put your big boy britches on, thsi is gonna be fun!

IF I remember correclty, it was their all-ACC center that graduated, and now a 270 soaking wet white center true freshman is replacing him... I'll take Chris Mayes/Mike Thornton in that matchup all day long. That is going to have a pretty big impact on the game, that matchup is the tip of the spear for UGA's defense.

That's exactly what I was thinking. I like our d-line vs their o-line. Could be the biggest variable in the game.
