By far our biggest issue with this team is the secondary

Offense has been up and down. Our front 7 is a bit disappointing (in large part due to injuries). At the end of the day, I think both will sort themselves out.

What I don’t see fixing itself anytime soon is the secondary. Bad at tackling, schemed pretty odd, not good at coverage.

Dan Jackson and Bolden are the only players I get consistent positive vibes from.

Secondary starts at the front 7, you can only cover for so long, the front has to get home.

True… but they’ll get healthier

I agree to some extent.. The players on the backend have lost the ability to locate a ball, be in position, and tackle. Maliki Starks has regressed this year. That wheel route TD in the Miss St game was on him.
On the other hand the leading tackler on the defense is Dan Jackson, that’s a HUGE problem!

Yeah, Humphreys and Everette seem to really be struggling. One I can't figure out is Jacory Thomas. Correct me if I'm wrong, but he was getting alot of hype at one time as our next stud at DB, but he's sorta drifted back into obscurity. He played vs Clemson and did pretty well, from what I remember, but it hasn't done much since, unless I've just missed it.

Our biggest issue is chemistry and multiple leaders sitting on the bench injured.

Who are our leaders? I think starks is a leader but he hasn’t been playing to his potential

DB tackling on the edges has been a big buzzkill except for Dan Jackson. It's a mindset more than anything. Javon Bullard wasn't a big dude. Jonel Aguero looked like Tray Matthews trying to tackle Fournette on that TD run in the Auburn game. This ain't supposed to happen with a Georgia defense ever.

The wheel route actually was on the safety he got sucked over to the wrong side of the field.

Starks stuck his nose in to stop the run for just a second and he had no safety help.

Bad technique trying to tackle too high.
You can't wrap up reaching around the runners upper body and you darn sure don't want to initiate helmet to helmet contact.

Only Starks can locate the ball in the air.

What I don't understand is that they still have 4 and 5 star players...mostly. Is it coaching? The DB's looked horrible Saturday, including Starks. Way out of position. I do agree that the injuries are a problem too but, nothing can be done about that for the most part. But again...I keep coming back to the fact that there are too many 4 and 5 star players back there for them to look so bad.

This is part of my observation as well. When’s the last time, cornerbacks at least, a CB found and played the ball well? It seems like we just molest the receiver without looking for the ball.

That's the technique that is taught. They read the WR and rake the ball out.

Starks is also playing out of position, for whatever reason I don't know. He looked horrible once, and that was on the fake qb sweep/throw to RB where he bit on it.

I do get that. But I wouldn’t necessarily agree that we do not find the ball when properly playing the technique.

I absolutely do think it’s coaching…. I just don’t get it though. How can our coaching be that bad? Secondary was a point of pride for years and since 2021, we’ve seen a drop off year over year

Or is it talent lost?

Film guy explained the busts and they made sense. The preparation for MSU largely was to stop the run, I can see why our guys bit, lebby drew up a couple of brilliant plays and his guys made some great throws and catches.

What is different about this team is poor tackling and stupid penalties.

Correct… they were a run heavy team. We had the guys outside on an island. Miss Stat took more shots than we thought they would. We pretty much shite doen their run and didn’t let the QB beat us with their feet. We could have played zone and had extra safties in coverage more often, but we chose to contain the run and QB and make him throw it. An inexperienced QB. Give the QB some credit. He made some nice throws.
