Who do they compare too?
All I’ve seen is a bit of their highlight tapes. I do t really follow recruiting so I may be really offbase

Pickens seems to remind be of Wims. Just overall very soldi. If the ball is near him, he’ll go get it. Not very fast, not a great route runner, and not going to get much separation but an extremely dependable receiver who we can rely on.

Blaylock for some reminds me of Tavares King. I can’t say why. Similar body build. Looks like s good route runner. Fast, but has some strength. I dont know lol.

Based on your assessment, I have to wonder why Pickens has a 5 star rating.

Because he seems super solid. Dependable to catch anything thrown to him. That’s extremely rare

George Pinkins reminds me of Mike Williams that played at USC in the mid 2000s.

Dom Blaylock reminds me of Jarvis Landry he plays bigger than he is

Radi on the radio this morning said his interviews with Bama high school coaches who had to coach against him said Pickens is the best HS receiver they've seen since Julio Jones.

Great routes, great hands, great speed, great size.

Blaylock on the other hand, not as big, but cuts and catches like Edelman at New England. Isn't going to outrun SEC DB's in a sprint, but gets open and makes the tough catches, takes a hit, holds onto the ball, and keeps moving forward.

You might be right, but I think one of the knocks on Pickens is his speed. Think he’s in the 4.6-4.7 range for his 40 time. Personally, I’m not a huge fan of his route running, but it’s good enough.

We must be watching different tape. Pickens has an insane catch radius. Wims doesn’t even come close to the physical gifts of Pickens. Pickens also runs really good routes which helps offset some of that lack of top End speed - his mold - I see Terell Owens - high school comparison - Mike Williams is pretty spot on.

Dom Blaylock reminds me of Terrance Edwards and Terry Godwin - lacks elite speed but is nifty and knows how to get open.

Let’s be real here Pickens has top 10 draft pick potential. He’s that kind of weapon.

By all accounts, assuming Pickens qualifies, both of those guys are totally capable of starting for us immediately.

Completely agree. They both should at least get significant playing time if they don't start. Holloman will get one spot for sure and I guess the others are kind of up in the air.

I hope so, WR is one of the easiest positions to get fired up about new recruits but under kirby we really haven't seen that pan out much. Granted last year I know we had ridley/hardman/godwin as the mainstays so there wasn't a ton of room to go around. But I still scratch my head we didn't see more of DRob. I want to see DRob Pickens and Blaylock a ton this year.

When we recruit a 5 star, I would hope he would be capable of more than 62 catches for 910 yards, 8 TDs, and a 7th round NFL draft grade.

The bar should be closer to AJ Green.

First round draft picks would help win better than 7th round draft picks.

I think that D Rob didn't block as well as Kirby liked, but you would have thought we could at least have him in during passing downs. His speed also has to keep the attention of safeties. I'm hopeful that we'll see him a lot more this upcoming season because he has a ton of potential.

Not sure DRob was ever conditioned enough, he had to be bad out of shape coming in, as one would think summer camp would have whipped his body type into game shape...he ran out of gas on a couple long runs, which is what wrs do.

Kirby mentioned came in out of football shape when he first got here and yes, I believe he was hurt for a bit at the start of the year.

It's awfully hard to get everyone into the mentality of *do what I ask of you and the best person plays* if you circumvent that and say... "frick it, D-rob can catch and we don't need him to block this play"...

Kirby's stubborn, but if you move the bar for one person, everyone else will notice. Not to mention what else was stated above re: condition/health.

Damn, that's a really good comparison. That's exactly what his film looks like, taking into account the offensive changes of the time.

I think Edwards was a little taller, but I might be wrong about that.
