All dogs can have a chemical imbalance develop at some point, problem is all dogs weren't bred to kill bulls...

The damage they can do in a split second is stunning.

Yessir! Just saw this last night! Such a terrible thing to have happen, but she’s been a trooper throughout the recovery process and is finally getting some good news. She’ll obviously deal with this in various ways over the course of her life, but thank God for her progress thus far and do keep praying for her on the road ahead. Still much to do, but what a big step forward! So happy to see that.

Hi
quote:

Petey on the Little Rascals was a pit; for many years, the breed was considered the quintessential American dog.

Breeding for dog fighting may well have damaged their reputation beyond repair, however.

I just don't trust em or would want em around me or any kids.

Got invited to an owner's house and he went on and on about how "sweet" and well behaved his dog was.

Well, as I bent down to pet this demon beast he leaped up and tried to bite me on the neck.He just missed and got me in the chest...I'll never go near one again.

Some people say it’s unfair to bash a breed but after having a pit bull in my early 20’s, it’s 100% fair. I bought that dog as a small puppy and raised it with the same kind of love I’ve shown every other breed of dog I’ve owned. One day I came home and he had escaped and killed the neighbors horse and donkey. Those dogs were initially created to have killer instincts and for fighting. Some people have success making pets of them, but it’s not worth the risk in my opinion.

I'd say you're a shitty owner.

I’d say you have no clue what the hell you’re talking about. I’ve owned many dogs and that one was not a regular dog. The pit bull breed was created to fight and kill. It’s in their DNA.

I’d also note that I had another dog (boxer mix) that grew up with him as a puppy and that dog turned out perfectly fine.

Nah, I’ve owned two pit bulls in my life and they never acted aggressively towards anything. Also had labs, Shepherds and mutts without issue. Known several people who owned pit bulls. Those who were shitty owners had issues with them.

Well keep calling me a liar if it makes you feel better I really don’t care.

All pit bulls aren’t going to be violent but they are the most likely breed to do so. They are bred not only to have a certain build, and look, but to also have certain temperament characteristics. The dogs are bred for fighting. If you end up with a good one that’s great, but I’ve owned many breeds and I will never take the chance on another pit because it’s not worth it to me.

Tosas are at least as likely, if not moreso.

It should also be noted that bulldogs were originally bred for bull fighting and bear baiting, too.

Pits were originally considered to be very good with children as they were very protective. But again, *modern* breeding may have changed that quite a bit.

A huge welcome home parade is planned as she comes through Winder on her way to her home. Still a long way to go for her but this is the answer to a lot of prayers by people all over

Great news! Thanks for putting a smile on my face!

I shouldn't have called you a shitty owner. However, I grew up in the 70's and 80's and pit bulls weren't a problem. Rottweilers, German Shepherds, and Dobermann's were the issue. They were more violent but they fell out of favor and people moved onto Pits. Like FaCube already said, they use to be called the Nanny dog because they were great with children. To me, that says it's about how they're raised.

I think this is just something people have made up over the years. Those muscles and strong jaws were bred for blood sport, not cuddles.

Pits can be great dogs, and I know several. But to say that the breed isn't aggressive is like saying labs weren't bred to fetch things.

Sure, sure. Let’s just ignore the historical evidence that was written 100-150 years ago about the breed.
