I'll preface this by saying that this young lady is a student in the same district as my kids, but I do not personally know her or her family. We do have mutual friends, hence how I came to be aware of this terrible event. She was attacked by two pit bulls while walking in her neighborhood (Friday, I believe?). I'm linking the FB page where the family is providing updates as well as a fundraising page that has been established for her. She has a LONG, brutal road ahead in her recovery and I know the family will appreciate anything you might be able to offer. We've got a lot of good folks here who always seem to come through bigly in times of need, so I wanted to share in an effort to help this family.

Thanks so much!

Latest update with more detail about what all happened:

We have been waiting until all immediately family knew the extent of Joslyn’s injuries, and we were just prepared to share. Everyone has now been notified and we are at a point to where we can emotionally be more open. As we have previously shared Joslyn’s trachea was crushed and lacerated. She had surgery to repair it but it will take weeks to heal. In the meantime a trach has been out in place and she is on a vent to breathe for her. Those murderous dogs also grabbed her hair hard enough to pull her entire scalp off. She only has a small portion of skin left on her head. At this moment she does not have any hair left. She will never have her hair again. There may be implants and things that can be done but it be over a year before those discussions can even begin! She is aware that her hair is missing. In addition, they ripped her left ear off. The doctors have reattached the ear, but they are not sure if it is viable. Only time will tell. Nor do they know if she will be able hear out of that ear. Her face has multiple lacerations with nerve damage. We don’t know the extent of this damage at this time. We have been told that this may effect her smile, her blinking and other facial expressions. She has multiple other lacerations, bruises, scraps and such all over her body. She also has asphalt in the tips of her fingers where it appears she tried to claw her way away from those dogs. She currently has pulled her tube out that was holding her vocal cords in place. They tried to do a scope this morning but was unsuccessful. They are discussing options to try to do another scope. Also, new today she has a blood clot in her jugular that they are looking at to see if it is ok or if it needs treatment. There is still so much that we don’t know about her injuries, but we know that God knows and that can heal her!! We are continued to be overwhelmed by the love, support and prayers that we are receiving. We are trying to respond to all of the texts, messages, calls, and questions that we can. Although we may not respond we are reading all of your comments, and they mean the world to us. Please continue to pray for our sweet girl. Also, pray for my mom as she is the only care giver allowed in. She is getting tired as you can imagine. We have been asked about flowers and such, but at this time Joslyn is not allowed to have anything like that. We do appreciate the thought. We have debated on whether or not to share a picture of her. We have decided on the picture below as you can see some of the damage but it is not too graphic. Please continue to pray!!

Happy to help man, let them know I'd happily pay their bail if they decided to break on off in the owners of the demon dogs.

If I ever happen to converse with them directly, I will surely pass it along.

Sic Em, thank you for posting this. I live in Barrow County also and had heard about this but could find no info in any newspaper. I donated and ask all the other Ranters that feel led to donate also. This is a tragedy that, as a Dad I can't imagine. I have never understood the desire to own a pit bull. This breed should be exterminated imo!

Thanks, buddy! Appreciate it! If you’re interested in following her progress, join that FB group. I can’t imagine what her family is going through right now. I just pray that time will heal her wounds, physical and emotional. She’s going to need a lot of support, but it’ll be one step at a time. I’ve never liked pit bulls for the potential that they always carry. I’ve met some really sweet ones, but man if that switch gets flipped for whatever reason, you better pray and fight like hell. Honestly, there’s just too much risk and so many of the people who choose to own them do so because of their menacing nature. That just makes it worse. I hope that they can determine who the owners of these were, but it’s not likely. Best we can do now is try to help her through her recovery. Thank you for for your generosity.

Has any info been released on the neighborhood or if the dogs were caught?

I believe I read they were caught and euthanized, but I’ll see if I can find that again to confirm.

ETA: definitely were caught. I assume will be euthanized if they have not already been.

Exactly...I hope they get some serious fines or jail time along with getting their asses sued.

More than likely renters with no liability
if they own dogs like that though.

FYI, news story came out today that said a cop who responded shot one dog on the scene when it charged him. It ran away and the other followed it and they did locate the owner. Hope they feed them to those dogs and then shoot the both of em.

ETA: Both animals were euthanized.

Donated. I am from Barrow County, family is still there. My brother in law is the Barrow county representative for the county in Atlanta. Tragic and hope the owners are fined and jail time. Lawsuit should be coming for them.

Thank you, sir! Btw, anyone wanting to donate, please be sure to use the PayPal link I posted in the OP. Apparently, there have been a number of fraudulent GoFundMe accounts that have popped up that are not authorized by the family. Don’t want anyone losing hard-earned money to these thieves.

I guess I just don’t understand pit bulls. Super aggressive defensive owners. Always the sweetest dog ever until it snaps and it “never showed signs of aggression before”. Always a kid or other dog.

Victims say it’s the breed, owners say it’s how you raise them

I say it’s both. But I’m not letting any pits near my kid, ever.

Also, donated

After spending over 80 days in the hospital and having numerous surgeries, this young girl is being released from the hospital on Saturday. A huge welcome home parade is planned as she comes through Winder on her way to her home. Still a long way to go for her but this is the answer to a lot of prayers by people all over.

Petey on the Little Rascals was a pit; for many years, the breed was considered the quintessential American dog.

Breeding for dog fighting may well have damaged their reputation beyond repair, however.
