quote:Yes we had our chances but I'm speaking more specifically on those last drives of ND. Sure we make those catches/fg and it won't be close. But we didn't and at the end of the game, ND had a very good chance to come back. ND had open guys and just missed them, which is what I was worried about.
They got lucky we missed a fg, had an unforced fumble, and an unforced dropped td.
I've seen it at times after that game, were we just drop back in 3 deep and rush 4, only to have gaping holes over the field for easy passes. Seems like early in the game, Kirby likes to do this and not really blitz much. I guess I've never really been a big fan of zone defenses.

Lots of coaches do that and it drives me nuts. Almost cost sc vs ut.

Added all his throws from the G-Day game. Will update OP with the link later today.

Thank you for making these!
I found a stat on Fromm yesterday that's pretty remarkable. He's #5 in the nation in pass efficiency and #1 on third down.

Hey Foo...I think the Senator linked your work for the ND game.
Good Work

G-Day link updated in OP.
After re-watching the spring game, Fromm was just as good then. He was delivering the ball with really good accuracy for most of the game.

This is already a week old, so many may have already seen it, but for some reason I missed it when it came out: LINK
Oliver Connolly is not a UGA guy, so it's interesting to me to read a piece put up by a guy who really views college football at the national level. Easy to fall into homer mode as a UGA reporter/writer, but suffice it to say, Fromm is really excelling in some impressive areas. Upcoming matchup with Auburn and potentially Alabama certainly could change things, but to date... it's rarified air for the freshman.

Excelling on third downs
Fromm has been flabbergastingly good on money downs. That’s where the great players separate themselves. Defenses dial up blitzes. They bluff in and out of every kind of coverage. Corners press. Safeties rotate. Pass-rushers pin their ears back. It’s tough.
Well, rather, it should be.
Fromm’s stat line on third downs reads like something from a 7-on-7 high school game. He’s 29-for-46 passing, with 509 yards, 8 touchdowns and an interception. Crunch that together and you get a passer rating of 209. Wow.

Good find. I noticed that several of the pass drops were on 3rd down, too (probably because we've been running a lot on 1st and 2nd), and Fromm's been delivering balls on the money all season. If more balls were caught as expected, Fromm would look like an absolute beast, even more so than he does already. If he keeps progressing, I don't see how we keep him off the field, even with Field's coming in.
I was excited about Eason's potential all last season, but that what it seemed to always be: potential. He showed many flashes of greatness, especially against Mizzou and Tennessee, but he just never looked comfortable back there. Fromm has looked comfortable all season.

Fromm Vs. South Carolina is up.

Yeah, that sucked. Tough to see a good drive end on something like that.

Good news is that game gave the team a taste of what it's like when everything doesn't go your way.
They were sloppy and still earned a W

Worst Fromm play: Almost threw pick 6 targeting Ridley in Q1
Best Fromm play: Blocking for Michel, love to see that
Man those 2 in a row to Ridley in the first scare the crud out of me - locked in with his eyes, making a bad decision on the first

I'm just thankful that his "Freshman mistakes" have not been very costly. He's progressing fast and making (mostly) good decisions.
I'm not glad Eason got hurt but I don't think we'd be the same team if he was at the helm this season.

How much do you blame blocking for the performance?
Posted on 11/13/17 at 11:53 pm to FooManChoo
There's a lot of factors that defined this loss but the refs not calling blatant pass interference calls on Auburn was definitely one of the factors. I mean holy cow that play in which Wims was just knocked of bounds before the ball arrived, was a ridiculous no-call.
