Haven't they tried to convict people for "cyber bullying" kids into their own suicides?

Not disagreeing with you in theory, but I think we are headed in a different direction.

You can refer to yourself as an fool and there is nothing offensive about your comment.

This analogy is dumb. Are you trying to say if a fool calls you a fool it is okay but no one else can call you a fool?

The problem is people nowadays think that it's a right to not be offended. That isn't a right in this country. In fact, the constitution gives you the protected right to offend anyone you want. You should look it up, it's called the first amendment.

Obviously, I know the first ammendment doesn't protect you from anyone but the government and that words have consequences but people nowadays think that they have the right to not be offended. What ever happened to ignoring people who try to offend you? Something about sticks and stones.

Stay away from that kind of language, white people. If black folks talk like that, so what. Just stay away from it. Nothing but trouble and you will never explain your way out of it.

It's funny in a way - the "N-word" has almost become magical. Not only can it not be said, it can't be said to such a degree that it can't even be named.

However, for any social justice transgression, trying to "explain your way out of it" is a fool's errand. The only real response to accusations of offense/racism/sexism/what-have-you is "And?"

No, it isn't. Public opinion is far more dangerous, since a court of law (at least ostensibly) provides some protections for the accused, and has limits on the punishments that can be imposed against the guilty. Public opinion has neither.

What offense are you committing, exactly? For healthy people, their sense of self-worth is determined by fiat, possibly with some input from close friends and family, not by anyone else.

Likewise, in any society with real liberty/freedom, everyone and everything is open to insult and mockery. As soon as people start adding "Yeah, but...." they're willingly giving control of their own lives (which is bad enough) and others' lives (because they are essentially assertng that we all have to live by their standards) to some outside committee.

Interesting standard at work with regard to this subject: kid commits a non-crime, get rid of him; but when other kids commit *actual* crimes - say, buying/using drugs or drunk driving - there is a strong push to give them second, third, or even fourth chances.

Something doesn’t have to be a crime for it to be more reprehensible than a minor crime. Racism is a feeling deeply ingrained in some people, and I don’t think there is a rehab for that.

But attributing "racism" to a single use of a word that people don't like is more than a bit of a stretch. If that's going to be the standard, then we can pretty much shut down the athletic program entirely. Every player who's ever used a racial term even once? Gone, because racism. Every player who's ever called referred to a woman as a bitch or worse even once? Gone, because sexism. Every player who's ever used the term "fig" even once? Gone, because homophobia.

It’s essentially a word that isn’t used without the intent of racism. Any player who uses that term in public should be gone, and I bet that very few across all of uga athletics would fall victim to such a policy, so enough with the hyperbole.

Kindly illuminate for us instances where the thoughts, words, opinions, and presumed intentions of a group are policed so heavily handed as todays white male

Hypothetically, if there were a sizable portion of the population that widely endorsed a culture that glorifies drug use, violence, obstruction of law enforcement, misogyny etc while publicly advancing stereotypes about other races, would that be more reprehensible than minor crimes too?

Because if you have television, internet, or radio in your home in 2018 you sure would think this country would be a veritable utopia if all the white guys got shipped back to Ireland

For some reason, that specific word is something that is unacceptable to use in a public setting. There really is no defending it. It’s silly to act offended by people being offended or appalled by its use.

Probably isn't anything they can do to him considering the latitude they give their faculty with free speech. If he's guilty & admits to it he needs to apologize. If he says he didn't do it best thing to do is move on from this entire conversation.

Okay Djsdawg explain this.

quote:

Kentucky's Andrew Harrison On Frank Kaminsky: "frick That ****"

Explain to me why it was okay for Andrew Harrison to call this white kid a N**** and to not get kicked out of Kentucky but you expect the white kid that said it to get kicked out of Georgia.
